Well we have been in oz for 4 wks now. We arrived in cairns and and stayed there for a week. We went on a boat out to the reef to go and see nemo and friends and got a bit of a shock when we saw a huge ( well big enough) shark swim in front of us, I bolted of in one direction only to turn around and see neil trying to follow it! ( this from someone who wouldnt hold a little scorpion) we didn't manage to see any nemos but we did see plenty of other fish wish was really good. Cairns was ok but the weather wasn't good and it was too expensive to sit in a pub all day!
Our next stop was mission beach where we thought we would go to have a few cheap days sat on a beach, unfortunatly it threw it down the whole time we were there and we only left the hostel to do laundry and go to a free poker night, were we came back with more money than we left with which is always a bonus.
Next stop was airlie beach where we went sailing around the whisunday islands. We went on a maxi sailing boat called the Condor and spent 3 days and 2 nights living on board. We had a fantastic time helping to set the sails and race the boat. And saw some amazing beaches and sunsets. There was a film crew on board too for the first night and we should be on an Aussie tv show on boxing day doing a documentry about boat racing.
After a 10 hr over night bus journey with a bus driver on a power trip, we arrived at a small town called Agnes waters. The day we arrived was Melbourne cup day, which is similar to the Grand national only bigger, we went down to the one pub in the town and won 8 dollars! shame we put 25 on, we had a great day though. Agnes waters is also where we learnt how to fall off a surf board, i'd like to say its where we learnt to surf but having spent more time under the water than on it i would be lying! Although neil manage to stand for a few seconds obviously he is now a pro. We also went motorbike riding here too on what looked like mini Harleys, we even had the leather jackets to finish the look, so funny a convoy of 30 bikes riding through a little sleepy town, really good fun.
We next arrived a Hervey Bay, which was where we stayed to go to Fraser Isalnd, which is the biggest sand island in the world, there's nothing much to do in Hervey bay so we just chilled out for a few days before we went to the island.
Fraser Island is the best place we have been so far, we had a convoy of 3 4wd cars (pink cars!) with a guide who looked like santa, driving around the is;and going to amazing lakes, seeing a shipwreck and running from Dingo's. The nights we were camping which was good and drank a bit to much Goon (cheap wine) learning drinking games from other countries. The lakes were especially amazing they were all different colours, one looked like it had a tea bag put in it and some were amazing blues, greens and there was totally clear ones too.
When we got back from the island Santa put on a party at his house on the night which was good with everyone from the tour there having a few beers by the camp fire.
We left Hervey bay a few days later and headed down to Noosa which had a really good beach and a national park which we got lost looking for. We planned to stay a bit longer but the hostel was pretty bad so we left after 2 days.
We are now in a place called Mooloolaba just north of Brisbane waiting to go to the first Ashes test. There are lots of new photos on so take a look and we will update again soon.
