Had a great last morning in Salon de Provence with a sleepin, breakfast from the bakery (our usual croissants and paine de chocolat) and a walk through the old lanes. A relatively easy 2 hour drive to La Colle sur Loup. Getting used to working the ticket and payment machines for the toll roads. Bit crazy once reaching our town as the roads very congested. We don't enjoy the driving through the busy towns. The roads are very narrow with sharp bends, drivers who do what they want and Mario not used to driving a manual, especially with 6 gears. GPS went crazy a few times but did get us to our hotel - hooray! Lovely hotel. Separate, connected room for the girls (bit of peace for us), wonderful view out to St Vence and the surrounding countryside. And, of course, the pool! Then off by bus to St Paul de Vence. Paid our 2 euros and what a ride. With a packed bus of tourists all off to the same destination, the driver didn't stop and drove straight past! At his final stop told me that we had to catch another bus to go back. A short wait and another 2 euros back to St Vence and this time the driver stopped! Meandered through the old town. Full of artists' shops - sculptures, paintings, drawings, etc. Visited a certain fountain where a certain someone tried to clean the crepe off their trousers. Back by bus to the hotel. Mario was told off by the driver for pressing the next stop button but not getting off. Haha. Dinner at a restaurant up the road that the hotel booked for us. What a meal. What a place. It was filled with antiques, including a vintage bike. The owner was also the chef, waiter and dishwasher. Some of the food was grown in his garden (olives, cherries, figs). He also keeps bees and his honey was used for one of the desserts. He bought out a jar of his honey for us to try. The meal was exceptional, the best we've had in France and on our trip so far. Waddled out of there for the 2 min walk home.
