We are safely at home now, but I wanted to post about the last three days of our trip.
On Wednesday, we fulfilled our promise to head to the beach for the day. Beautiful, sunny weather! We relaxed for several hours and noted the differences in common, both for adults and kids, beachwear in Portugal vs. the US. The last hour, another of Christy's German friend came over to hang out.
That evening, we and another couple of Christy's friends went to the German's house for dinner. She BBQed all different kinds of meat and veggie kabobs. She also made several side dishes including a cucumber salad that was to die for! After dinner, we went to Christy's favorite restaurant/bar for dessert.
The following day, Thursday, we had a lazy day at Christy's house, packing and getting ready to head back in the morning. That evening, we had dinner at Terra Restaurant, a place voted as the best vegetarian restaurant in Europe. It was a ~$15 p/person buffet with gourmet vegetarian food, hand pressed juices (Brad had blueberry juice!), and a variety of teas. Some of the best I have ever had in my entire life! Anyone who goes near Lisbon must wind through the backstreets to try this place!
Friday, we rolled out of bed at 7a.m. (that is 1 a.m. in middle TN) to catch our 10:20 flight. After a rousing game of try to follow the Portuguese signs to the aeroporto, we said our goodbyes to Christy, my wonderful BFF and lovely hostess with the most-est. There were no problems on the flight from Lisbon to Newark (we actually got two lunch meals! Continentials vegetarian food is actually not half bad!), but the flight from Newark was about 30 minutes delayed. We made it home and into bed at 11 p.m. (5 a.m. in Lisbon; so we pulled a 22 hour day!!!)
Portugal is a WONDERFUL place, and everyone should think of it the next time they look for a vacation destination!!! They are so laid back and friendly. The food is quite tasty. The flight is not that long. And the language is beautiful! Definitely, one of my favorite trips EVER!
