Another stuffy night in our cabin was worth the sacrifice to wake up in beautiful Blue Pearl Bay - the location for our second snorkeling session. This part of the reef was much shallower in areas, allowing us to really appreciate all the detail of the coral. We got to meet Elvis, a fish rivaling the size of a small labrador who responds to the sound of the boat's motor and anxiously circles the tender of snorkelers, knowing that he will get rewarded with food. It was quite the exciting experience to see such a giant fish as soon as we dropped into the water! We also got to interact with some giant clams that were embedded in the massive brain coral. It was a good thing we were required to wear stinger suits as we also saw lots of jellyfish in this area as well. On our way back to Airlie Beach, we enjoyed the sight of a pod of dolphins off in the distance. It felt great to be back on steady land, as well as in more spacious, air conditioned quarters. We stayed at Whitsunday Terraces once again, and were surprised to see a washer/dryer in the unit as well! Being on the boat for two days, we felt the need to get some exercise, so Anne and I took a nice little jog down to the beach, around the newly-developing marina, and back up some steep hills to our apartment. We may have even done a little exploration through some unmarked weedy paths to find a short-cut back. What we found funny was how small this town now seems. As we continue meeting backpackers along the way, it seems we see people we know everywhere we go. Later that evening, we treated ourselves to a lovely dinner out at Cactus Jacks, a mexican restaurant that served me the most tenderly juicy rare T-bone steak I've ever eaten. Monday night was also the official True Blue Sailing after-party at The Phoenix Nightclub where we got to reconnect with friends from the boat as well as let loose with the crew members. We said some "goodbyes" to friends who were catching the late-night bus to their next holiday stop, but knew that we'd most likely meet up with them later on down the road. We invited a few friends up to our apartment after the party to hang out and review photos and videos from the sailing trip before spending our last night in Airlie Beach.
