I Arrived in Perth at about 1am- jumped into a taxi and headed for the comfort of the Holiday Inn Hay street. The flight seemed so much longer than i remember-There was only a 40 minute stop in Singapore which worked out about 17 hours flying! So the hotel was great- thanks big sis!
I woke up and had breakfast and went for a wander before i checked out. Sussed out all the good shops and eaterys. One of the best things about Perth is their transport system. Cat Buses are Three free bus routes which get you around the city. I went and checked in to the hostel and first impression were not great but it was clean enough but really big and spread out.
So I decided to take a wander to Kings park and botanical gardens, Jumped on the cat bus to the nearest stop and then had to walk whats called Jacobs ladder-I thought I was going to Collapse! Its a huge staircase which goes up about a hundred feet! The weather was really hot and seemed to get warmer every day that went by. I didnt spend long up there, saw the Bali memorial which is really nice. After climbing all those stairs I discover there is a free bus which goes to and from kings park...
I got back to the hostel and went and got a chinese- Australias restaurants are about 60% Asian food- Chinese every other night- Im in my element! I got chatting to two Irish Girls- Maddie and Jinny- well that was that- they couldnt get rid of me now, the three of us got chatting to a english guy called Aaron. Within the hour Aaron and I had gone on a treasure hunt for a bottle shop- so there i am walking around with a guy I've just met in a city i dont know. This is what i love about backpacking- Instant friendships! Aaron and I found some beer and wine after a pit stop in a pub and headed back to the hostel. We have arranged to meet in sydney after christmas for the renunion.
I went to Fremantle jail (gaol) which was really interesting day out- did two tours of the gaol and got lots of pics
Many of the nights were spent in the hostel drinking Goon which is cheap aussie Wine- 5 litres for $15! between all of us it was great! our group now consisted of The two Irish, Maddie and Jinny, Nadine and Vicki- the welsh, Lizzie and Laura-from Bedford- and Frank and Jay- my roomates. Now when Frank and Jay moved in we got chatting and Invited them out to the Deen- see pics on Photobucket! Its turns out Jay has his own Bodyshop in Sutton and we know a lot of the same people! Again these boys didnt escape -we are meeting them in Sydney! We formed a little family group- the girls and i went to fremantle market, cottesloe beach, rottesnest island and then on our last day there was the swan valley wine tour! Maddie, jinny, Nadine, Vicki and I, 12.30 - 5.30 we were sampling wine and 4 different winerys. there was much giggling and sillyness. we also all discovered we prefer late picked and dessert wines and Im now port drinker too.
Overall Perth was great fun from Maddie and the box of wine incident to meeting Greg and the boys its been an amazing week. Cant wait for the reunion in Sydney next week- its going to be amazing.
