How to while away 15 hours in Delhi airport...
With difficulty, as it turns out. We arrived in Delhi at 10am, hoping to be greeted with at least a duty free shop and perhaps some restaurants in which to pass the time. What we got, however, was a room with not quite enough chairs and a largely unmanned cafe periodically selling drinks and neglected-looking samosas. So for entertainment we had to make do with people watching (and Scrabble cards, obviously. A holiday wouldn't be complete without them.) Fortunately, the people were of the more interesting sort, and included the cutest little Thai baby ever, incongruously named Magnus, and a bushy-bearded ageing hippy who told anyone who'd listen about the music tour he was currently undertaking, and seemed to take particular pride in the number of CDs he'd burned at home and brought with. I'm still wondering if anyone's actually gone to his concerts yet...
At all-too-frequent intervals throughout the day, airline staff would pass through the lounge (and I use this term very liberally!) advertising to us just how many other flights there were to Bangkok leaving before ours, calling out a good few names all at once, and leaving confused passengers to find their own in the garbled mess that resulted.
Finally, after watching group after group come and go while we took on the shape of our chairs, our names were called, and I've definitely never been so pleased to leave a country before!
