Saz and Dave's travels
Today we left Cambodia and entered Vietnam. We got up early to get a public bus at 7.40am from Phnom Penh to Ho Chi Minh city (Saigon). Although it was a public bus it was much nicer than the last one we got with air conditioning and free bottles of water (we love free stuff!). The journey was 8 hours in total but we made quite a few stops including the border crossing which took a while. At the border they checked the passports and visas and we had to take our bags and put them through a x-ray machine - what they were checking for I don't know because they didn't check our small bags.
When we arrived in Ho Chinh Minh we got a taxi to our hotel which was amazing. I think we had the honeymoon suite or something because we had the most enormous room with plants and a massive corner bath. When we checked the price it's only US$30 a night for a room so it's pretty cheap really!
We went for a quick look round before tea but found it really hard to cross the road - even worse than Cambodia. There are literally no pedestrian crossings and it feels like you are taking your life into your hands every time you want to cross. The city is massive and so busy. It seems that noone walks anywhere they all just use motorbikes!
We had dinner and drinks later - our last night with the group which was quite sad. Everyone is going their separate ways tomorow but we booked into a hostel for tomorow night for US $10 per room per night along with a few others from our group - Sok (tour leader), Nick (Sheffield), Zach (Australian) and Rochelle (Australian) so we will probably stick together for a few days.
