Saz and Dave's travels
Today we had a blissful lie in for once. We had the whole day to spend around Mt Isa before we had to get the overnight bus to Alice Springs at 4:30pm, so after a tasty breakfast of yoghurt and museli we headed out to explore. The first place we went to was outback at Isa a museum which gives a history of the town and its mining background and also has a section with loads of fossils and wax versions of the prehistoric animals of Australia. It was all quite interesting but Dave seems to get fed up when we look round museums so we kept the visit brief.
After going to the museum we decided to climb the hill to the city lookout which was good but quite hot as it was really sunny today. At the top of the hill there were loads of lazy people sitting in their cars scoffing McDonalds presumably on their lunch breaks!
After admiring the view we wandered back to the hostel where we ate sandwiches and lay on the grass for the next few hours dossing as us backpackers do! At about 4:30pm we had to go and get the overnight bus to Alice Springs which we were dreading as we had to change buses at 2am meaning we weren't going to get much sleep!
The first bus journey passed fairly quickly and we had some long stops, breaking the journey up. At about 1:30am we were all thrown off the bus into the freezing cold at some dodgy roadhouse while they got our connecting bus. It was a whole hour before we could get on the bus again and we spent the time chatting to a couple of girls on their way to Darwin. Dave decided to occupy himself by sewing up my top, the sleeve of which has completely come apart and he did a really good job, especially since it was the middle of the night!
We got back onto the bus (they didn't actually change the bus we just had to wait outside for an hour which was odd!) at about 2:30am which we were very glad about as there were a few mangy looking stray dogs running about and a couple of incredibly loud and drunk aborigines who didn't look too friendly!
We managed to get some sleep in the hours that followed but only just got comfortable at about 9am when the bus was pulling into Alice Springs.
