Saz and Dave's travels
Today we had a nice lie in for once! Most people in the group decided to go on a day trip today to the nearby national park island but they had to leave at 8am and we really wanted to sleep so we opted out of this trip! Instead me, Dave and Nick went to the beach for some rest and relaxation - neither of which we got! When we got to the beach it was absolutely packed with locals, all fully clothed dancing about in the sea, playing football, eating. We later found out that it was 'Woman's day' in Cambodia today so all the women get the day off work and can do what they want for the day (sounds good to me!).
We were about the only tourists on the beach today which meant we were the prime targets for all the local kids trying to sell us stuff. We did buy a couple of souveniers but they just don't give up plus there were loads of women coming round asking if we wanted our legs waxed /nails cut/ feet massaging! We just had to keep saying 'no thanks' and in the end the kids gave up and had a game of footy with Dave and Nick - Nick is a PE teacher and is really good at football so the kids thought this was great! We made one boy cry however because we said we didn't want to buy a bracelet and he sat and sobbed for about 25 minutes! oops
We went back to the Happy Herb pizza restaurant for lunch and had a quick look round town but quickly returned for a shower as it was unbearably hot today! When the others got back we went back to the Monkey Republic for tea then decided we would go for a drink on the beach. However the others all got a lift on a motorbike to the bar (motorbikes are like taxis round here - just jump on the back for about a dollar) and we decided to walk to save money. This was pretty stupid as not only did we have to get past horrible barking dogs and big cows in the middle of the road but after about 40 minutes of walking could not find the bar. We decided to get a motorbike back to the hotel (both of us plus driver on one small bike!) which was pretty scary as nothing really to hold on to! Don't think we'll be doing that again...
