Saz and Dave's travels
Today we left Kratie and got back in the mini-bus for a seven hour journey to Phnom Penh (the capital of Cambodia). It was such a long way and everyone was so cramped that Dave, Nick (from Sheffield) and a couple of others decided to sit on the roof!! We stopped for lunch at a nice little restaurant where about 8 waitresses all stared while we ate - quite bizzare! Later we stopped again and some of the boys ate spiders that were for sale (really big things) and little frogs yuk!
We arrived in Phnom Penh at about 3.30pm, checked in and did our own thing for the afternoon. Me and Dave wandered down to the river to get a drink and play cards. However when I say wander it wasn't quite like that! We had to cross several very busy roads and they have no pedestrian crossings here. You are supposed to just walk slowly across the road and the traffic is meant to swerve round you. It's terrifying! There are thousands of motorbikes, tuk tuks, cyclos cars and vans coming in every direction with no gap and you literally just have to step out into the traffic! Not the most relaxing thing in the world!
After going on a very slow internet for a bit we all met up for dinner at 'friends' a really great restaurant set out to get kids of the street and into jobs. The food was amazing but the portions were too small! We got chicken, mango and cashewnut, Amok fish curry and fish fritter things.
