Today yet another adventure is about to start. I am leaving Ecuador (with pain in the heart) and have a flight booked to Sao Paolo later this afternoon. Raul and I have an amazing breakfast in a Spanish establishment before giving Guayaquil the benefit of the doubt. After an hour of strolling on the Malecon, we both decide this city has none of the character of the other Ecuatorian cities so we decide to go to our room, pick up our luggage, and head to the bus terminal and airport for respectively Raul and me.
My flight to Quito - with connection to Sao Paolo - only leaves at 14h30, but the lady on the counter refuses to check me in unless I buy a ticket out of Brazil. Apparently they had cases where the passengers were put on the first flight back into Ecuador. Frustrated I decide to go and have a look for a ticket directly to Salta as I will stay on the ranch my last month anyhow. I buy the ticket online, show the proof, and finally get allowed to check in.
When going through immigration, security still asks me a couple of questions ending with why I don't want to stay in Ecuador. Tempting! Our flight is about 15 minutes delayed but soon we are off to Quito. We are told we have to postpone our landing until we get permission as weather conditions are terribly bad. This seems so from a very bumpy landing into Quito only 15 minutes later in the end.
Once on the flight to Sao Paolo, it seems we are only about 30 passengers so we are asked to all move to the back of the plane for balance purposes. I get a very chatty neighbour, a 25 year old girl that does not stop talking for the next two hours: about her 58 years old financee, the money he spends on her....oh god let the stewards please turn off the lights so I can have a rest!
