Sri Lanka blog 3
We went diving on Monday: Lilian did an introduction dive and I did a normal one and I came along with her first real dive. Unluckily the visibility was not really good, but I did see quite some fish. Lilian didn't really like the diving, she said she didn't understand how the floating worked and so she didn't feel very comfortable but she was happy to have experienced it. After the diving we went to Mirissa, where we found a nice little shop and where we chilled out on the beach and played with the waves - quite a shorebreak over there. It was so nice just lying in the sun and enjoying the paradise.
The rest of the week was great! We caught more and more waves and they were a really nice size: a bit bigger the beginning of the week and getting smaller later on. The weather was getting less nice: in the afternoon there was either rain or rain and a thunderstorm. But it was nice to get some cool air before sleeping. We went out for an early dinner on thuesday and Friday: needed some energy for the waves.
On Friday we found a dog - or he found us - and he stayed with us all day. We took out some tics that we found in his fur and gave him some food: we were thinking of adopting him but well, we actually knew that wasn't going to happen. He was really sweet though and dissapeared in the evening.. hope to see him again soon.
The last couple of days we went to bed so early, about 8-8.30 pm, crazy really, but we do get up around 5.30 for the surf and we use a lot of energy in the waves and during the yoga (such a hard life here;)).
We got all set up to go to the Yale National park on Monday. We'll be going there by bus and the guest house will pick us up at the bus station when we arrive. The next morning at 4.30 am we'll start driving to the park, where we'll be having a seven hour safari and hopefully we'll see lots of leopards, elefants and many other animals. Really looking forward to that.
That same day we'll take a taxi up to Arugam bay where the surf season is about too begin. Dependig on how much fun it is over there, we'll stay for a couple of nights or longer. We might get back to the south for one or two nights so we can have a last surfsession the morning of departure.
Saturday we went for a surf again and the big swell has arrived. We met Alon in the water - he'll be leaving tomorrow - and the waves were huge! After the surf we went to Marissa together for some breakfast and to relax. The shorebreak was nice to play in and in the right corner of the beach were some proper waves breaking. I borrowed Alon's board (5'10'') for a paddle and a wave. Unfortunately he couldn't stay long - had to go back to his guests - , but we relaxed there for a while untill in started... raining! Rain in paradise: should be forbidden.
Alon offered us to stay in his villa for a couple of nights before we leave. He's going to check if there are any people who booked it and if not, we are free to stay there! That's really supersweet.
We had a late lunch in Marissa and took the bus back home. I went to town to get some fruits and dates while Lilian stayed at the guesthouse. Back it was time for a movie and some sleep: we were going to go to Midigama the next morning 5.30 am to surf the 'lazy left'. Our dog - we called him Benji - was there and we gave him some love, attention and cookies ;)
Midigama wasn't all that. We've seen it breaking quite good before, but today was not the day... i did catch a wave, but mostly we were paddling and we gave up in an hour. As we were sitting on the beach some dude went out and caught 1 wave, just sitting in the back waiting for nothing... We took a tuktuk back hoping to go for a surf at out homespot, but at 8am already the wind came in and the ocean didn't look nice at all... Looks like the season here is over, which is fine, because we're leaving tomorrow anyway.
After a nice yogasession and a beautiful breakfast we went knocked out at the beach and woke up an hour later. Now it's time to go to town to check the bus for tomorrow and to post this blog,
xx

Groetjes, Paul
