I arrived in China a little late later than predicted, but that was alright. !! There had just been a big typhoon in Hong Kong and lucky me it was nearly gone. The pilot first didn't think we could land in Hong Kong, but lucky us… we did. By the time I arrived at the hostel in Kowloon I could check in immediately and I just got a bedroom with a double bed and wireless internet. I went into town to walk around, see the museum of arts (really interesting and nice!!) and make heaps of pictures. It was really hot outside, 31 degrees, and really moisture. In the evening I slept for an hour or so before I went back into town, but I was so tires, that I just had something to eat and went to bed.
Thursday I slept in a little bit, checked out (but I could leave my bag there) and went to the peak by tram. The peak is like a high hill on Hong Kong Island and it's really touristic. There is a really nice view though. First I took the lift in the finance building to thee 55th floor (it's free) to check the view and after that I went to the peak. I thought it would be nice to walk down afterwards… that took me 45 minutes and pain in my muscles the next days…
Then I did some more sightseeing and around 17hrs I went to the airport to get my plain to Sydney, which was a bit delayed.. I was sitting next to a very nice Australian lady, that just visited her daughter and her new-born granddaughter in Hong Kong. We both watched the sex and the city movie and another one… I just couldn't sleep…
I've arrived in Sydney Friday morning after two hours of sleep. When I went to get my bag I remembered the words a friend of my mum said: sometimes the company just loses bags, so make sure you've got everything in your hand luggage. I just thought no worries, that already happened to me once, when I went on a study trip to Greece (I got my bag the next day), so it won't happen to me twice… so I thought…
When my bag didn't arrive, I just laughed at myself: of course that happens to me ;-) I went to the lost baggage desk and this friendly men tried to help me, but he couldn't trace my bag. Anyway, I ended up with 100 dollars and I just went to town. They were going tto give me a call when my bag arrived.
I could stay at a friends place for a couple of nights. His name is Kaz and he and a friend of him, Fernande are doing some scientific research in a hospital here (they're studying medicine in Amsterdam). They're living in the centre of Sydney with 4 roomies: Lynn (the hospital, originally from Malaysia), Pablo (from Mexico), Marine and Laurent (both French). They're all really nice people and it felt like home straight away!
I didn't have to unpack when I got there, so I took a quick shower and we went whale watching! With 'we' I mean: Kaz, Fernande, Michaela (from Vienna) and Russ (from Canada: I'm gonna visit him when I am in Vancouver!). t was really cool: the boat took us out of the (darling) harbour and we really saw some whales: on even jumped out of the water! Four hours later we were back on the whar f and we went back home. Marine made some great quiches and we watched some tv. Everybody went out, but I was really tired, so I went to bed.
On Saturday morning I checked my email and Kaz and Marine had a haircut. Then we went to Bondi beach andd I gave Marine, Kaz, Fernande and Laurent a surfing lesson. Small waves, about 2 foot, but a big swell is coming Tuesday!!
In the evening my bag was finally found and I kind of unpacked. The others just watched a movie and we went to bed around midnight.
Today (I'm writing this on Sunday evening) we went to Cronulla by train (with Kaz, Fernande, Marine, Laurent, Laura: dutch girl and Daniella: from Brasil) and from there we took the ferry to the Royal National Park in Bondina. We made friends with the ferry captain and I even steered the ferry!! It was only a small ferry, so the man, his name is Rob, offered un to take the ferry to Manly tonight (from the circular quay harbour) and see the cabin and all (for free!!). Of course we couldn't resist, so we swopped phone numbers.
In the park, we went for a 6.8 km walk on the beach, though the bush and the dunes. It was really nice! After that we chilled on the beach and took the ferry and train beack to Sydnet. There we had a quick shower and we went to the big ferry (1140 tonnes). Rob picked us up and we all had a go steering the ferry: it was amazing. We had some diner at hugo's, a pizza place in Manly and a hot chocolate at Max Brenner. After that, we took the ferry back and I almost steered all the way!
We did some shopping for breakfast (23.30 hrs) and now it's time for bed.. Tomorrow I have to find a job and a place to live…..
