Hi Everyone,
After leaving the Thomas', we went to stay with Youngie and Marcelle for a few days, well what we thought was going to be a few days but being disorganised and forgetting about easter weekend, we couldnt get a train or bus anywhere so we ended up staying with them for 5 days! We were very very lucky and we were spoilt rotten by them. We had the most amazing time. Our first night they took us to the top of the building Youngie works in where we had the most spectacular view of the whole city. We were there for sunset so we saw the most incredible sunset and then all the lights turning on over the whole city which was so cool. That was followed by a delicious supper at the cricket club, so a very spoiling evening. We had a great day on Sentosa where we lay on the beach and went on this surfing thing with a generated wave...after thinking that it would be easy we were both absolutely useless but it was great fun. One morning we went on Marcelles cycle tour around the city. It was so much fun, we saw so much of the city and went out to where the grand prix is and had a photo in pole position!! We also had some delicious lunches discovering chicken rice which was amazing and had a great evening watching the sunset from the marine barrage looking back at the whole city. We had a great day with them on good friday when they had a massive bbq and we met lots of their friends which was great fun. It was such a great 5 days and so nice to see them after so many years and we are really hoping they will make it down to Trevose again at some point.
We were very sad to leave them on the saturday when we headed for Melaka. We arrive in melaka and got on this hysterical local bus into the centre of the town. There were all shouting at each other but it was so much fun. We stayed in this really cute guesthouse near chinatown and went to this incredible market in the evening. It had absolutely everything you could think of and right in the middle of it was this massive aerobics class going on. It was a great place and a shame that we couldnt stay there longer to see more of it.
The next day we got on a bus to Kuala Lumpur. We managed to find the hostel that we were staying in and went to have a wander around some more markets before buying our first meal on the streets. It was so so delicious, we had chicken and beef satay. We then had a great day going to Chinatown and Little India and had some more delicious food and also went to see the Petronas Towers.
Then after our 3 days in Malaysia we flew to Surat Thani and went out to some of the Thai islands. Being very typical gap year people we started off in Koh Phangan and had 3 nights there. We were in the funniest/weirdest hostel but it was only £3 a night so it didnt matter. It was great cos it had air conditioning but it was all pink with playboy bunnies everywhere! We met some really great people there and had a great first night out. We LOVE the thai food and it is so nice how it is all so cheap. I cant wait to get shopping. We spent a lot of time on the beach and then of course on our last night we went to the half moon party. We had such a great night, in the jungle and we went with all the people from our hostel. It was such an amazing night.
The next day was the best festival ever invented...Songkran (Thai New Year), it is so much fun. It is just a massive water fight. Everyone has the day off and are just in the streets throwing buckets of water over everyone. We were moving from Koh Phangan to Koh Samui so everything got soaked. In Koh Samui we stayed in this really cute little bungalow which was near the beach and perfect for a few days relaxing. We had a wander down the street and got soaked through and covered in talcum powder. It was brilliant. We had a great 2 days there sunbathing by the pool and on the beach.
We then set off from Koh Samui to Phuket to stay with the Kirkwoods. The bus was another funny bus where there were so many people standing in the aisle for 5 hours!!! But we made it to Phuket where there was a massive storm!! We have had the most amazing few days with the Kirkwoods, yet again being spoilt rotten. They have the most beautiful house with the most spectacular view. It has an infinity pool and all you can see from it is the sea! Our first evening here we had a delicious Thai meal on the beach and then yesterday we had a great day swimming, sunbathing and catching up. Very sadly the Kirkwoods left this morning to go to Singapore and they very kindly left us in their house for a few days before we head into Bangkok so we have been very very lucky. It was a shame not to overlap for longer but so great to see them for a few days and we had lots of fun with them. This evening we went down to the beach for supper and just as we were finishing someone set off some fireworks, we felt like it was our own little fireworks show!!
Hope that you are all well. Miss you all and lots of love xxxxx
