Hi everyone,
So after leaving Byron Bay where we had an increible 6 days we had the most action packed 10 days to get all the way up to Cairns and stop off to do Fraser Island, The Whitsundays and The Great Barrier Reef. It was the most incredible 10 days though so it was definitely worth it!
When we left Byron we went to Surfers Paradise for one night. When we were wandering around the town, someone told us about getting $2.50 steaks so of course we went to go and explore that! They were amazing, for $6 we had a steak, chips and a drink! So we were very very happy with that. Surfers was a really cool place, so weird having all these high rise buildings right on the beach though!
Leaving Surfers, we went up to Brisbane for the afternoon and night. We met up with LeeAnn who looked after us so well. We had an amazing tour of Brisbane, going to see the fake beach, going to a museum and having a wander around the main part of the city. We also met LeeAnns boyfriend Jason and their 2 kids, Hugh and Kate, who were so cute. LeeAnn took us out for a delicious nepalese meal and then her parents very kindly had us to stay for the night before getting on a 7am bus up to Hervey Bay.
We were pretty worried arriving in Hervey Bay and being told that there were floods all up north so no buses were going north. Luckily we had 4 days before we needed to go north so we were just hoping that the floods would have passed. We stayed in Hervey Bay in a hostel with everyone that we were going to Fraser Island with and the next day we got up at 6 to leave for Fraser. It was such a brilliant trip, driving round in 4x4s following our 68 year old guide called Rango. It was great fun. We went all over the island, seeing Lakes, going up to Indian Head and going to the Champagne pools. We camped each night right next to the beach and then spent the days driving around the island. Our guide was amazing, we were all in a creek and he was in there with us and suddenly a snake started following him up the creek, everyone was screaming at him to get out of the water but he carried on walking up the creek, then he tried to pick up the snake with the snake trying to jump out of his hands and then he let it go and it swam away! Later on, someone admitted to us that it was a fake snake and that he had tied to snake to his leg! It was hysterical, he had managed to fool the whole group. The lakes were spectacular and Fiona very bravely swam in one of the lakes with a deadly snake sitting right on the side! I got scared and ran in the other direction! We also had a very interesting night with the Dingoes coming into our camp. The whole night they were just wandering in and out so everyone was pretty scared by that. One guy left his tent open and so a dingo went it and tore up lots of his stuff!! We were so sad to leave Fraser Island, we had such a great group of people and it was an amazing 3 days! But it was really nice to spend a night with everyone in the hostel, we had such a good night playing flippy cup and we really impressed everyone with some of our card tricks.
Then it was an overnight bus to Airlie Beach and straight onto a boat to sail around the Whitsundays! Unfortunately the boat that we were meant to be on had either broken or sunk! No one really knows?! But we were moved onto a different boat and we had a great time. We went snorkelling lots, it was incredible snorkelling and we had to wear some very attractive stinger suit. The boat was such good fun, and luckily we had a really sunny day so we could do a lot of sunbathing. Sleeping on the boat was interesting! The beds were about as wide as us and it was so hot that i dont think that anyone really slept. We also had to play this game the whole time that we were on the boat where you arent allowed to say the word 'mine' and if you did you had to do 10 press ups. Unfortunately, neither of us were very good at this game compared to everyone else. It was such a great few days on the boat though and we ate so much food. It was amazing.
We then jumped on another night bus all the way up to Cairns and got off at about 6:30am to get straight on a boat to take us out on the Great Barrier Reef for the day! It was an incredible day. The snorkelling was so amazing. We went snorkelling on 2 different reefs. The water was bright blue and we saw so many fish. We saw a baracuda, sword fish, a turtle, nemo, scar and some sort of funny blow fish thing. It was so good and the food was incredible! On the way back in we had cheese and biscuits with a glass of goon!! very classy!
After one night in Cairns we then flew to Singapore and we have been staying with the Thomas' for a few days. They have the most incredible house and we have been spoilt rotten! We went for a one hour foot massage the other day! We also went to China Town and have been driven around parts of the city. Yesterday we took the dogs on a 2 hour walk to the Botanical Gardens where we saw some turtles, we got a little bit lost but managed to find our way in the end and then came back and jumped in the pool immediately. We definitely arent used to this heat. It has been so nice to catch up with the Thomas' and we randomly discovered the other day that Fiona went to nursery with Charlotte Thomas. In the next few days we are going to be heading up through Malaysia into Thailand where we are going to be spending a few weeks.
Hope that you are all really well.
Lots of love xxxxx
