These last 12 days have been amazing! We set off from Matt's and headed for the Coromandel in our campervan!!!! It was the most beautiful drive. We drove up the west coast of the Coromandel right along the beach and then went across to the east coast. We got a bit of a shock driving on what was meant to be one of the main roads but it was a gravel road through the hills. We stopped at the waterfall at the edge of the road which was good fun. That night we stayed in Whitianga, a really nice little town by the beach.
The next day we went to find hot water beach. It wasnt low tide yet though so we walked from hahei(a really nice beach) to cathedral cove. We were not expecting the walk to be quite that long but it was worth it because catheral cove was amazing. At low tide we went onto hot water beach. It is like something you have never seen before. There were hundreds of people there all digging their little pool to sit in. The water was absolutely boiling but it was great fun. We just ran around jumping in other peoples pools as we didnt have a spade! We then went on to Whangamata to stay the night there, just a bit further down the coast. The next day we had an unfortunate wake up call at 6:30 by a man from the council giving us a $200 fine for parking in the wrong place! ooops! But we had a brilliant day anyway, we went to Matt's girlfriends batch in Whiritoa. It was amazing and right by the beach. So we spent most of the day on the beach and then had a lovely bbq with Matt, Dominique and her parents.
It was then onto smelly Rotorua. We were so so so jammy, we headed into a hostel to ask the girl behind the desk where we could stay and she offered us her driveway! That night we then met this guy who said that he would give us a tour of Rotorua the next day. So we went on the luge, zorbing, out for lunch, to an animal park to stroke baby lions and to a maori village!!! It was a great great day. The maori village was incredible! They put on a little show and then cook the most delicious food! It called a hangi and it is cooked in the ground. It was great.
It was then onto Taupo. On our way we stopped at this river where boiling hot water meets a cold river so we had a little swim in there! Taupo was great. The lake was so nice to swim in so we spent a lot of time there. BUT, we also went SKYDIVING!! IT WAS INCREDIBLE!! Both of us were very very surprised to not be more scared during the build up. But up in the plane the nerves definitely kicked it! We skydived from 15000 ft and it was amazing. We had a view over the whole of Lake Taupo and we could see Mount Doom from lord of the rings as well. Definitely a highlight of the trip so far.
From Taupo we drive to the coast and drove through Hawkes Bay and Napier. Napier was really interesting. All the buildings were so different, they were great.
THEN, we headed off to Wellington for the sevens. Matt had very kindly managed to get us some tickets which was amazing so we found some pirate outfits for a great price of $6.50. Matt and his friends were egyptians and they looked awesome. the outfits at the sevens were so amazing though. one of our favourites were the green toy soldiers. we had the most amazing time and it was so nice to spend some more time with Matt. Matt was definitely right when he said that it is the biggest fancy dress party ever. Most people dont even watch the rugby they just go along for the party! it really was amazing and we had such a great time and there was a lot of dancing!!
