After Ranchi I went to Bodhgaya by train (my friend and his friends really wanted me to get the best tickets to the train, they were so worried about everything). In Bodhgaya I spent one night, 1 and 1/2 day. And my hotel, it was the cheapest from the best hotels in Bodhgaya, 1800RS one night. I was thinking about some nice, cheap guesthouse 100-300RS for one night, but no it wasn't okay for them. But the hotel had hot water and a bath tub which was really nice. I thought that I deserve a hot bath because I spent so much money for the room (but I felt so bad for India, I just thought "I'm sorry India I'm wasting your water but I really need this hot bath"). Hot bath felt so good after taking cold showers for 5weeks.
In Bodhgaya I really enjoyed spending time at the Thai monastery, on Wednesday the day when I arrived there I spent almost 5hours all together at the Thai monastery. Just talking with the monks, wandering around and talking with other people. The monastery was so beautiful and monks are so nice. I was so lucky to be there at that time because new monks came from Thailand and they were going to have a ceremony for them for next few days. I helped them to set up the ceremony for the new monks. Later that night I joined the ceremony. I saw the first part of their ceremony when they got their monk-clothes. The ceremony was so beautiful and it felt so special to see it and be part of it. Everything was in Thai, they sang to their King in Thailand etc. I met 4 Thai students who explained to me what's happening. Before the ceremony I saw when they shaved their hair and facial hair. It was an amazing experience.
On the next day, in the morning at 6.45am I joined a meditation. It was interesting, it was my life's fastest 45min. Then I went to Dungeswhar cave where Buddha tried to get the enlightment for 6 years without food. Then I visited a small village called Sujata where Buddha had his first meal after 6years. There I met a teacher and the founder of a school for orphans and for poor children, Sakya Sujata Children Welfare Trust it's the name of the school/organization. I visited the school and spent some time there talking with him. It's amazing what they do, the school is free for the children, teacher-student rate is max1:20, orphans get free breakfast, lunch and dinner and a place where to live (IIMC's schools/education program is one thing that I didn't like about the organization. Because the IIMC school is really expensive for the students, they don't get free lunch etc. State schools in India are free until 9th grade and students get free lunch. But the teacher's aren't very good, they have good teachers at IIMC schools. But when IIMC is for the poor of the poorest Indians so I don't understand how do they think that the poor people would be able to pay for their kids education. IIMC sponsor children so it's free for them. The sponsor thing is really good but still I don't think it's right when the school is so expensive. And the teacher-student rate is about 1:30 - 1:60, depending on the grade. I sponsored a child, I'll tell more about him later.)
All this sightseeing end exploring about Buddhism I did with a guide that I met on Wednesday. It was really interesting and the places were really beautiful. I never had heard about those places or basically I didn't know anything about Buddishm. After the tour around Bodhgaya I went to the main temple in Bodhgaya, Mahabodhi temple, there is the holy tree where Buddha got enlighment. I stayed at the temple for like 2-3hours, just wandering around and talking with the monks. I just love the monks, they are so nice and friendly. I might have seen the next Dalai Lama. There was a young boy having a ceremony and there were alot of people listening to him. I was talking about it with someone and we were thinking that he might be the next Dalai Lama. The current Dalai Lama is getting old and few weeks after I was in Bodhgaya he went there to have his last ceremony.
Then I went to see the big Buddha statue. There I got attacked by at least 30Indians. They wanted to take picture with me in front of the Buddha statue. I don't know in how many family pictures am I. I tried to leave but still people wanted to take pictures with me. Then when I was leaving they ended up taking 'secret' pictures of me like I wouldn't have noticed them taking pictures of me. I guess it's so weird and amazing for them to see a white girl. That's what happend in Darjeeling and in Sikkim as well but there it was only few people. But at the Buddha statue there was literally at least 30-60people taking pictures either with me or of me. After Buddha statue I visited Bhutanese monastery, I really would like to go to Bhutan. It sounds so fascinating when there's no foreign people allowed to work or live. They want to keep their Bhutanese race and culture as it is, which I think is really great.
Surprise, after Bhutanese monastery I went back to the Thai monastery where I saw the 3rd part of the ceremony for the new monks, they got their foodbags and blessings or something. Earlier this morning they had a big ceremony at the main temple where they became monks, they wore their monk-clothes for the first time.
It was getting dark and I realized that I haven't had anything to eat for almost 12hours, nothing after breakfast. I know, that is really unnormal for me when I'm like always starving. But when I travel alone I just completely forget to eat. I might realize that I'm hungry but then I just somehow forget it. I went back to my hotel and ate at their restaurant. I ordered chicken biriany, when I got the meal I noticed that it was meant for two persons even if it was really cheap. I thought I will never finish it. But when I started eating it felt like I had a big hole in my stomach because I never got completely full, I was easily able to eat it.
My night train back to Kolkata was supposed to leave Gaya at 9.30pm but it ended up being late for 4 and 1/2hours. It wasn't booring or scary to wait for the train because I met the 4 Thai students again, their train was supposed leave few hours after my train. So I spent the time with them and with two Thai monks that had came with them to the train station to wait with them for the train. I'm glad that I met them again because my Indian friend in Ranchi was so worried about me when my train was late. All together my train ended up being late for 7hours. I was supposed to be in Kolkata at 5am but it arrived noonish.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Ranchista menin sitte junalla Bodhgayaan.
Opettaja-oppilas suhde on maksimissaan 1:20.
