Hi,
Next location after the joys of Rome was in a place called Seiano, which is in between Sorrento and Pompeii so good for day trips which we have done 3 of so far. We have to get a bus up a steep hill followed by a white knuckle ride of a train journey. We've seriously been on slower rollercoasters!
Went to Pompeii on the first day here, which is suitably impressive but resulted in a very sleepless night. There was the loudest thunder I've ever heard and we were both lying awake pretending that it was due the noise, but really s***ting ourselves that Vesuvius was erupting and waiting for the ash cloud to descend! Hehe.
Second day had a look around Sorrento which is a tourist resort but a very nice one in a lovely bay overlooking the dreaded Vesuvius. Today got the boat to Capri which we weren't that impressed with considering how much it cost to get there. It's picturesque but to get the most from the place you have to do some major trekking down and then back up very steep hills and steps away from the hundreds of tourists crowding the main squares.
The weather has been pretty rubbish so we headed off the Sicily with a couple of stop offs on the way. One at Paestum which is a site of some ancient Greek temples - older than the Roman stuff so scores extra points!
We crossed over to Sicily today and finally the sun is shining again, wooooooo! Just sat at the camp site listening the England game, which is commentated on ESPN by Bob Fossil from the Mighty Boosh! Well it sounds like him.....

Gran and Gramps If you were so frightened by Vesuvious you'd better forget Etna. it errupts all the time. Gran says you must visit Taorminia, great views of Etna. Cheers, G and G.
Auntie Julie We had an amazing holiday in Sicily, stayed in the hills behind Cefalu, near a hill town called Polizzi Generoza, not a tourist in site. Every evening everyone paraded along the main street to the square, past an amazing gellateria. Off the mafia trail as well! Also loved the greek temple and amphitheatre at Segusta and an amazing hill town on very high cliffs nearby. Our friend went to Agrigento to see the even better greek ruins and found themselves in the middle of a mafia wedding, it is on the mafia trail!! Where next? DON'T GO TO ZANTE, even if it is easy from Italy
