Sara's Journey
Hey everyone!
We finally arrived in Singapore after our 25 hour bus journey! We spent all day on a mini bus which was rather cramped and then changed over to a quite a nice spacious coach once we crossed the border into Mayalsia from Thailand. We then had a ten hour drive to Singapore which actually went quite quickly! The coach driver however was one of the rudest people ive meet and he shouted at us on many occasions, it didnt help that Jen and I were the only Westerners on the coach!
We were a bit worried about the immigration and customs when we arrived at Singapore as we heard a few 'stories' about how strict they are but we managed to get through ok. The coach was meant to pick us up after we had got through immigration but he left us there which was no surprise given his attitude, so we had to get a taxi to our friends apartment.
We stayed with one of our friends from uni, Ben, who is currently working in Singapore. His apartment was really nice and was good to have a few home comforts! It was also a bonus that we didnt have to pay for our accomodation as Singapore was not cheap, espicially after Asia. The alcohol is ridiculously priced, it worked out about 5 pounds for a pint of beer, ouch! That didnt stop us from drinking however as out of the 3 nights we were there, we drunk on two of them! We went out with Ben and his work friends to watch the football on Friday night which was good as there is very large ex-pat community in Singapore so the turn-out was better than Phi Phi!
We went shopping the next day to Raffles shopping mall which was very impressive but unless you have a bank balance like Victoria Beckham, its rather dull! The experience was woth it though as the malls are amazing. Everwhere in Singapore is so clean and perfectly 'manicured'! The roads, streets, buildings, parks are like something out of fantasy world. There are also so many high rise buildings, i think everyone in Singapore lives in an apartment block!
We went to the local theme park the following day which is situated on an seperate island form Singapore, the theme park occupies the whole island! We got a cable car ride across to 'Sentosa' (the island) which was amazing as the views of Singapore were fantastic! Once there, we went to Asia's largest underwater aquariam which was very impressive. We also went up the 'Sky Tower' which takes you up 350 feets in a revolving 'spaceship' and you can see the whole of Singapore and even some neighbouring islands!
We decided a trip to singpaore wouldnt be complete without a visit to the world famous 'Raffles' hotel! Well as you can imagine it was spectacular with all the designer shops and restaurants galour! We decided to go to the 'Long Bar' which is the home of the Singapore sling cocktail however we decided to go for the cheaper option, a beer and a orange juice, spot the backpackers! The experience of going there was worth it though!
On our last day we just chilled out by the pool at Bens apartment and ate pizza as we had a hangover from the crazy night before, well it was our last night in Singapore!
We arrived in Bali last night so havent got much to report on at the moment but sure i will have in a few days!
Bye bye for now,
Love Sara
