Trinidad and Tobago
Saturday was spent on Maracas beach. A beautiful bay about 45mins drive (towards Blanchisseuse on the tropical north coast) from Mount Hope. It is very popular with all the locals and usually heaving on weekends and holidays. However we were quite lucky in that it was pretty quiet since there was a huge welcome back Soca warriors ceremony at one of the stadiums in Port of Spain.
We had to squeeze 6 of us into the "Taylor-mobile". 45 mins is a very long time with 4 people on the back seat suffocating in the toxic fumes! At least we are starting to be able to understand what he is saying now. He told us that one of us had to lie on the floor if we spotted the police since it is illegal to have 4 people in the back (fine to have 3 in the front though!!).
The beach was great and the sea really warm again. The waves were not quite as powerful as last weekend but sarah still managed to loose her sunglasses and bikini top at the same time. She only managed to hang onto the top, so the sunny's met a watery grave.
Ate "Shark and Bake" for lunch at a shack called Richard's that has been highly recommended by practically everyone we meet. It was pretty tasty. Supposedly shark (although not sure it wasn't just a combo of various white fish!) served in a strange kind of doughnut style bread roll with a selection of salad and sauces - a local delicacy.
Returned home to another evening of poker and Carib.
