Last night was regrettably our final one here, we've never felt more at home since we left as we have here in southern Switzerland. It's clean, friendly, safe and welcoming, something that unfortunately can't be said for some of it's more famous European neighbours. It would be very easy to settle in here for a long time....
This afternoon we returned to Italy on the train bound for Rome. We had to change to a connecting train in Milano but due to a delay on the trip we missed it by a mere 5mins, trains here don't wait for anyone! Thankfully we only had to wait 35mins for the next Rome bound train, this one a fast train with Rome as it's first stop. Due to a deal Sarah was able to get, our Eurail tickets are for the first class carriages for all our train journeys so they are quite comfortable and we can spend the time reading or plotting out the next part of the trip. The connections to get us here went as follows: Interlaken-Spiez-Milano-Rome and a final local train to the camping village we'd booked for the next 3 nights. After 5 trains and 9hrs travel we were keen to call it a day but the booking we'd made yesterday wasn't showing up on their system! We pulled up the Hostelbookers (the site we've been using to book accomodation) email receipt and confirmation reference number on the iPad and they could see it simply hadn't transferred to their system yet. We'd booked a bungalow for €22 a night each but with the booking confusion they actually had none available for the 3nights we'd booked for. No worries, they simply upgraded us to a Chalet (really just a bigger bungalow) at no extra charge.
"PLUSCamping Roma" is more of a mini city than a camp ground. Supermarket, bar/nightclub, swimming pool, beach volleyball court, laundry, security gaurd, restaurant and Informations center where you can buy your transport tickets. Accommodation can be booked in pre-erected tents (2 or 4 persons), bungalows&chalets (up to 6 persons) or you can simply book a spot to pitch your own tent or park your camper. With a bus stop out the front taking you to the nearest metro station it's simple to get in&out of heart of Rome to do your sightseeing.
