Early Monday morning we started our journey to Nice along the French riviera. We drove the highways for the first 1/2 of the way and then took the scenic route as soon as it appeared on the map. What a great idea! We turned off towards the coast and then it was simply a matter of following the water until we hit Nice.
Not long after driving along the coast we came across a small unpopulated beach in the town of Sainte-Maxime so we pulled over and jumped straight in. The water was warm, the sun was again bouncing off our backs and the real value of having the car revealed itself. This was a driver reviver to die for! Given that Sarah isn't driving due to the added age/insurance costs, I welcome these breaks immensely. After half an hour of swimming we dragged ourselves out of the water we were back on the road again following the winding coast towards Nice.
The drive is like the Great Ocean Road with it's curves and cliffs but the views leave you speechless at times, even from the cliffside you can see through to the bottom of the ocean. The water is simply that clear. We made a few scenic stops along the way to allow ourselves the privilege of taking in these amazing coasts. Our drive took us through Fréjus, Sainte-Raphael and finally through Cannes (famous for it's film festivals) before coming into Nice at about 5pm.

The sat-nav did it's job and got through the one way streets in the heart of the city to our hostel up on the hill, the carpark here is small and we thankfully got the last real spot meaning we won't need to move it during our stay. You have to leave your keys so the staff can shuffle cars to let others in and out if they're blocked.
After a beautiful meal cooked by the onsite chef at our hostel (only $7 euro) we retired to our room to upload pictures and nut out our next two days on the French riviera.
