Hello all from a baking hot Australia!!!!! Its been 40 degrees today and too hot!!!! Well a lot has happened since i last updated! We arrived in Melbourne after a hectic few days on the Oz bus and settled into our accom in St Kilda!!!! We were in a 10 bed dorm with 8 guys so the place was a tip!!!!! We wasn't there long before we moved in with an old school friend! She is also travelling but had the luxury of her own apartment sharing with 2 guys!!!! We moved in after a few days and made ourselves at home, it was cosy to say the least, 5 people in a 2 bedroom apart but it was heaven compared to dorm life!!!!! We landed ourselves a little job doing promo work for an adventure travel company so that earnt us enough so we could go on a road trip!!
After working for a few weeks we ventures out onto the great ocean road in a wicked campa van!!!! Our home for the next 5 days!!! We started out heading towards Torquay where we visited the world famous surfers beach, Bells Beach! Next stop Anglesea where we had a bite to eat before heading off to our next stop......Split point lighthouse, where round the twist was filmed!!!!!! Next stop was Lorne where we visited the Erskine falls, we then headed inland to Stevenson falls which is were we spent the evening! The campsite was very secluded and in a valley with about another 20 or so campers!!!!
Next morning we had some brekky (porridge, yum) and were back on the road heading back towards the coast and down to Apollo Bay!!!! We drove to Beechforest which was a 36km round journey and it was closed due to the flooding, so we retraved our drive and headed to Mariners Falls where we were supposed to be on an easy hours trek to the waterfall , but involved crossing about 6 rivers on wobbly rocks!!!! Anyway I survived and it was well worth it as the waterfall was great! We then headed to Teddys lookout which is 1 of the best viewpoints of the GOR! We were wandering through the forest and i mentioned that it looked like snakes lived here and then Jade saw a dead 1 ahhhhhh scary!!!!! After the trauma we headed further down the coast to see the highlight of the drive, which was the 12 Apostles!!!! Were we saw a man who's top half was fully clothed but just had pants on his bottom half (see pics lol) , Oh and the 12 apostles were good! We then drove a further few km's down the road and saw loch ard gorge and thunder cave! That night we stayed in Princetown rec centre and had omellettes for dinner yummy!!!!! We then thought it would be a good idea to have a fire for the evening, to keep the mozzies away and to keep warm!!! Well a bloke spotted us from across the park and offered to help us , in his words " seeing as u lot are Sheilas i'd guess u would have a bit of trouble"!!! We didn't object and he sorted the fire out! Job Done!
Day 3 we headed towards colac, which is inland. It was a fair few hours drive so we stopped at a place called Shelley beach for some lunch and happened to spot a Koala! Yay! They are so hard to see, i have been in Oz for 3 months now and have only seen 2 wild Koalas!!! We carried on driving and ventured towards red rock lookout which was a massive red rock in the middle of nowhere!!! It wasn't Uluru (Ayers rock) if anyone was wondering! We met a guy there who had 2 pet pugs, which was nice!! We then headed to our place of rest for the evening and that was Meredith Park whick was right next to Lake Colac, which is rather large!!! We adopted a dog called timmy and had a bbq with Kangaroo steaks!!!!
The next day we headed off to Phillip island to see the Penguins! It was a long drive (around 3 1/2 hrs) but was worth it when we finally got there! We set up camp at Anchorage caravan site and took a drive to the nobbies centre where we learnt about the rock seals and took the board walk around the cliff top!!! After this we headed into town to grab a fish and chip supper!!!! We sat by the sea and were surrounded by seagulls!!! After diner we headed off to the Penguin Parade where we watched the little penguins come in from sea to feed their families!!! They came in at just after 9pm, the evening before the penguin count had been over 500!!! We watched them come in for a while and then ventured back onto the dunes to see the baby penquins being fed!!!! We then headed back to the site as it was freezing and had an early night as we had to set off early to return to St Kilda!!!!
We returned to Melbourne around midday and returned the campa, we stayed at our apartment for a couple of nights before heading off to Perth!!!! Which is where i am now, at my grandad's house, which is luxury especially after living in hostels and a van for the last 3 months!!!!! Got lots planned so will keep u all updated!!!!!! xxxxx
