Hey Everyone!
So I just spent the weekend in Paris....and I wrote down in a journal all my thoughts and findings every day, so these next couple blog entries are coming straight from my journal. I am going to split up the blogs because they will be so long. Over all Paris was amazing and I had such a good time! It is a beautiful city that you just can't help but fall in love with. So, without further ado here is my trip to Paris!
Thursday Morning 10-4:
It's about 8 am and I've been up since 5. The sun is finally starting to shine through the train compartment doors. I am currently on a train to Dover where I will be taking a ferry to Paris. I am taking a ferry over, but need a train to get there first. It is a fairly long trip, but cheaper than the eurostar prices I found. This is the first time I've traveled outside of London, I am really excited. I feel like in the past month I have been here I have seen a lot and nothing at the same time. While I have seen sights like Stonhenge, Bath and Westminster Abbey, I feel like it is nothing horrbily interesting since I will be here for another 2 months. That sounds awful because obviously these things are amazing, but I feel like Paris is something really special and different. I am currently traveling by myself, and I surprisingly don't mind it so much. It is peaceful and calming, and you don't have to worry about what other people want to do. You can just do your own thing.
After traveling on the ferry for about an hour I got on a train from Calais (ferry port) to Paris....or so I thought. (the following is summing up the days events). I got on the train that I thought was going to Paris. It in fact was going to Paris, but was making a stop and exchange at a station that I was unaware of. So, because I don't speak french and cant understand it, I did not get off the train where I was suppose to in Lille, but ended up going all the way BACK to Calais. So I stayed on the train and when I got to Lille again I got off.
At this point it is almost 9 o'clock at night and I am getting a little worried since it is dark, I cant speak french, and I have no idea where I am. I hail down a taxi and show him my hostel address. He tells me (or what I thought I heard) that it would cost me 45 euro to get to my hostel. I get in the cab, and attempt to pay him 45 euro. He tells me I missunderstood him and that it is actually 450 ERUO!! I tell him to pull over and ask for directions to the train station. After wondering around for about 20 mins I finally find the station and get a 10 o'clock train to Paris. I get into Paris at about 11:30 at night. But wait...my journey isn't over! I get a taxi and ask to be taken to my hostel. He tells me its 45 euros (actually) and I reluctently get in. He tries to make conversation with me in broken english, and I simply reply with the answers to his questions and nothing more. Half way through our journey he tells me he wants to take me to a disco-tec (club). I told him no thanks and that I wanted to go to my hostel. After a persistent 10 minutes of him trying to convince me that I would have fun he finally gives up and takes me to my hostel. I finally arrive at my hostel after the creepy guy tries to get a kiss out of me. I eventually pass out a little after midnight.
