Hey guys, just a little catch up in the last few days. Although as you can now see we are in Krakow, Poland we actually spent Sunday night through to Tuesday in Prague. We stayed at fantastic hostel called 'Sir Toby's' which although a little far out of the city, thus challenging us to embrace the cities tram system was still really quite luxurious for a hostel boasting it's own pub and large TV projector. Oh and the all you can eat buffet breakfast was a plus too! On Monday we attempted to join a tour of the city but after 5 mins spent struggling with our Czech guides accent we gave up and had a bit of a wonder on our own. This resulted in us buying a picnic and enjoying a long relaxing lunch (but a cheap one!) overlooking the river. We then got the fernicular railway up to the top of a hill with lovely gardens and mini eiffel tower at the top. We finished the day in the sunshine out on a pedalo in the river where i was swiftly removed from my position as paddler and steerperson to be renegated to chief passenger, in charge of photo taking instead. (By the way we are having a little difficulty with uploading photos and the notorious videos at the moment but they are coming..) Monday night consisted of a club visit to a 5 storey night club. Awesome.
Tuesday was very chilled, with a trip up to the Prague castle, which was a bit too touristy for our liking then another leisurely lunch in the park followed by us all snoozing on the grass and waking up to realise it was us and a few other obvious backpackers amongst the homeless people sleeping! We then headed back to our hostel to get packed up, have some dinner then head to the train station for our first overnight journey, to Krakow.
Luckily, we had booked ahead for our journey so had a sweet little cabin to the three of us equipped with three somewhat tight bunks one above the other. Sarah clambered the towering heights to the top, 'im claustrophobic aletta' took the 'spacious' middle bunk and lanky old me took the bottom one. All to be woken at 6 am by a very Polish Dracula wannabe! All in all quite amusing.
Suprisingly our early start and disturbed sleep did not deter us from our sightseeing mission in Krakow as we are limited for time here. After dumping our stuff at the hostel we headed in to the lovely city square and up to the castle. This afternoon we headed out on a coach journey to Auschwitz which was rather haunting but very interesting all the same. We also bumped in to a friend from bristol university too, of all the places! We have just got back from having dinner with her now (the curry we so desperately craved!) and are heading out into Krakow town. Tomorrow should consist of a bike riding tour of the city and another overnight train but this time to Budapest. So more news soon!
Much love,
Sarah (Abs) x
