Sarah and Nicola Matthews' Travels
Hey!
Last message from South America!! really cant believe our time here has gone so quick. We have had an amazing time, we have spent the last few days in Santiago which has been loads of fun. It is great to be back in the sun and its a perfect temperature here - high twenties without a cloud in the sky!
We all really love Santiago. We had heard from that Santiago was a really boring city but we have found it absolutely gorgeous and have spent a few really good days here. There are two hills in Santiago - Santa Lucia and Santa Cristobel - both give you amazing views of the city. Santiago is a strange place because it is absolutely surrounded by the Andes so you should have amazing fews of snow capped mountains. However, because it is really smoggy here you can only see the Andes if you really really look!
We have had a few really fun night out here- which is because as Nikki put it we have been having the nights out of pop stars!! Santiago is definitely the place to come if you are lacking in self confidence! Every where you go the men tell you how beautiful you are not matter how minging you are looking!! on our first night here we decided to have a few drinks just near the hostel cos we were a bit tired. We went in a little bar and we have never had so much attention! we had people taking pics of us and buying us drinks - this was despite our total lack of makeup and decent clothes!!
The second night we went to Bellavista which is a really cool area near our hostel with loads and loads of bars. Once again we were inexplicably the centre of attention and Caroline met a very nice gentlemen friend!!! The next day we were definitely feeling our heavy night out though!
We spent one day away from Santiago in a place called Valparaiso which is a weekend retreat for people from Santiago, we had been told it was gorgeous but we preferred santiago. It was a port town with loads of houses built up really steep hills and it was quite pretty but not hugely interesting. The next day we went to Vina del Mar which is the nearest beach resort which was nice but had quite a fierce costal fog so was a bit chilly! so we were happy to get back to Santiago.
Today we have been to a vineyard called Concho y Toro which is the the biggest wine company in South America. The tour was really really good and we had a bit too much wine! Dad you would have loved the tour!
We are getting our flight to New Zealand latter and we are all really excited. It is quite strange though because even though we take off tonight (Monday) and the flight is only 12 hours because of the huge time difference it is Wednesday when we land in New Zealand. So Tuesday is a completely lost day to us!
Anyway speak soon
