Phnom Penh is a nice city, in places it's hectic, dusty from the roads & smoggy from the mopeds etc but on the whole it's my favourite city so far compared to Ho Chi Minh & Hanoi! We are staying near the riverfront & royal palace which was nice to walk around. We stayed in a nice guesthouse where the manager spoke good English which is so nice to b able to communicate! He sorted our bus tickets to siem reap & our visiting the old prison & killing fields, which were a big eye opener & very heart wrenching! The prison shut around 1979 & housed prisoners, some of whom were forced to admit to crimes they didn't do! They treated them inhumanly, torturing them and transporting them to the killing fields, making some kill others & simply killing thousands of people including women & children. It did bring a tear to my eye on several occasions! We had a tuk tuk driver for the day who waited for us whilst we visited the prison then took us to the killing fields where we were given head sets to listen to the tutorials. Very sad indeed.
Have enjoyed our 3night stop in Phnom Penh, now into siem reap!
