We woke feeling a bit worse for wear but had a good breakfast ready for our trip! We were collected by shuttle & transfered to a jewellery shop in the city which is where the tour began, plateau rafael made jewellery for famous films such as Titanic & Romeo & Juliet, some of the pieces were stunning. The owner Rafael made everyone an engraved piece whilst you watched & explained his techniques. Once everyone had time to look around we set of with our tour guide to Teotihuacan. On the drive out of the city we passed so many favelas & the famous Ecatepec de Morelos, Mexico City’s roughest most populated suburb, Where they have built a mexicable, colourful passenger cable cars that almost 30,000 commuters use every day. It was just under an hours drive to the pyramids, the sun pyramid was the largest of the two then the moon pyramid with a path in between called the avenue of the dead! They are said to date back to 100BC. Our tour guide talked us through the history of the mesoamericans then we had a few hours to look around the site. We walked up to the moon pyramid first it was so steep & some of the steps were huge. The view of the valley was like a film set, the smaller pyramids which were in a square below & looked spectacular with the sun pyramid in the background. There were lots of locals selling materials, hand made articles & paintings. We walked down the avenue of the dead towards the pyramid of the sun it was huge, it had four sets of steps to the top, it was even steeper than the moon pyramid lots of people were struggling to climb it! At the top the view of the valley was amazing, lots of people were praying to the sun gods & dancing! Butterfly’s were fluttering around it was quite a surreal feeling. We sat at the top & soaked up the sunshine for a while & took lots of photos before heading back down to meet up with the tour guide. Once back onboard the bus we went to a local restaurant where we had a Mexican buffet & mariachi band with some dancers for entertainment, I felt dizzy & sick from the intense sun & the hike up the pyramids but it soon passed thankfully! We went to a museum with tequila tasting afterwards then finished the trip off with a visit to the Basilica de Guadalupe a Roman Catholic church & National shrine of Mexico. Once we got back to the hotel it was pretty late so we decided to freshen up & just go up to the cocktail bar on the roof terrace to finish our stay off as we flew to Peru early in the morning! I tried a advocado martini, it came in a bird cage with flowers & was the most fancy looking cocktail I’ve ever had, however it tasted pretty weird ha! Kurt had a few mohitos & I tried a lavender cocktail which was lovely!
