This was a one night stopover on Thursday 31st January 2008 and was another really good day. The bus journey was only a couple of hours, and soon after we left Trinidad that morning we were driving through Topes de Collantes, where we stopped twice for lookouts over the mountains and we also stopped at a coffee place. Everyone got a little camera crazy today, there were group photos taken at both lookouts, which is no easy matter when there's over 10 cameras involved. Once we got to Santa Clara, we went to the Monumento Ernesto Che Guevara, which in addition to the momument housed a mausoleum and museum. Afterwards we made our way to the hotel where I proceeded to feed my leftover lunch to a gorgeous dog I named Honey, and then we were taken into town to look around. Santa Clara is a very clean, well put together place, but there is not a lot to do there. We then went to Monumento a la Toma del Tren Blindado, a museam about the capture of over 400 of Batista's troops by 18 men commanded by Che Guavara. This triumph led to Batista leaving the country and Fidel taking over so was a major event. I was completely fascinated by it.
That night was the last night for 3 girls in the group and our tour leader so dinner involved speeches and lots of clinking glasses. After dinner we watched a fashion show by the pool- very random. The clothes were all individually handmade and afterwards most of the girls congregated in the makeshift changing room. I bought a green dress- now all i need to do is wear it!
I'm going to call it a night on the updates now- its 8.40pm and i need to eat dinner and pack for an early start tomorrow. Night night Sarah xxxxxxxxxxx
