What an inncredible eveing - completly blown away, buzzing from the excitement with a smile plastered across my face. Quite a contrast to this morning.
We piled into tuk tuks and off we set to our guides family home for dinner. We were truely off roading, at least 15 mins out of the city we were really starting to find the real cambodia. Greeted by loads of kids who studied in his home simply to learn English. It was impeccible. Kids of 12 were virtually fluent.
We sat down to an absolute feast of dishes, I couldn't have been happier. Defo one of the best meals since I have been away. But the best is yet to come.
They cleared away our dishes and announced desert.... on came the watermelon and pineapple... and a plate of worms and beatles!
I was straight in there! Had my very first worm, similar to a silk worm! Tasted much like a pate, paste texture. With a funny aftertaste and kinda hard to swallow! After a demonstration on shelling the beatle I shelled my own and tucked in.... well licked and nibbled! Didn't quite throw the crunchy shell bit or the optional head... but I got the flavour! And my my!
Next the dead tarantuals were brough to the table, including the tarantualr wine. Shot that - very similar to the snake wine from Vietnam. I squeeled as I held the tarantual in my hand! Slowly got more comfertable and eneded up with him and the plate of bugs happily nested next to me.
The family were so welcoming, telling us tales of the tarantuals and bugs. I felt so welcome, and they were so proud I tried. I will upload the video as soon as the internet allows me!
Now with a belly full of bugs I will vamoosh to bed!
Goodnight all! xxx
