last night was great!! although my head does not agree hehe... when you travel then go out drinking chinese style, the alcohol catches up with you, rather quickly. Me and andrew were the first to rise in the morning with the rest of the lads getting up at 5pm... the time difference was taking a hold of some people.
At 6pm we ate breakfast... hmm..please dont pass judgement.. We proceeded to take a walk to The Bund, in the Huangpu District of Shanghai. It is one of the biggest tourist attractions in Shanghai and is home to something like 52 buildings, the architecture of some of the building is amazing, many in gothic and renaissance style. Its a must see whilst in Shanghai i think. The walk to the Bund from our hostel took around 45mins, through busy streets, many people trying to sell you cheap tack and many stopping to take photos. Shanghai was definately a city that never sleeps. In the dark, the Bund look amazing filling the sky with lights and a variety of shapes.
On our way back we found a resturant to grab some food... vegetarians beware!!! I found out tonight that asking for food without meat is difficult but also finiding vegetables that are not cooked in meat juice also very hard to do. i had a bowl of noodles in some kind of soup, but tasted like chicken so i ate very little :( I was proud to say i had nearly conquered the use of chopsticks!
Arriving back at the hostel we began to make friends. Staying in a hostel i found that you are never alone ad there is always a conversation to be had!! we met Laura and Sasha, two lovely people who invited us to join them on a trip to West Lake tomorrow. so that is tomorrow planned.
After walking through Shanghai, you begin to realise the size of the city you are in, its a hell of a lot busier than London thats for sure. If you are a city lover then this is definately the place to be... how cheesy does that sound :P
Im still getting used to sleeping in bunk beds and in dorms again, you cant be too private anymore. I shared the dorm with all men as the dorms are usually mixed, so there was a french man, a danish man and a man that just moaned... (mental note- bring ear plugs next time).
I hope that being away from home for 2 months will teach me who i am and need to be and so far the start on that road to China has really begun.
goodnight x
