Well as the title suggests, our trip is quickly dwindling away and every day seems to go faster than the one before, which creates feelings of sadness for us both but at the same time excitment that we will be seeing everyone again very soon! I hope you are all ready for copius amounts of photos and stories from the past 10 months!!
Since the last blog we finished our time in Thailand by going to the full moon party with a Norwegian couple we met in a bar only hours before (Mirium and Oustein) feeling a little bit worse for wear having been to the jungle party the night before as a warm up!! Both were great parties and a great experience!! We then made our way to Cambodia which as expected was slightly less commercial than other parts of Asia as the cities (Siem Reap and Phnom Penh) are more like large towns really compared to Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, but nonetheless plenty to see and do. The killing fields and museum in Phnom Penh are a must see as they describe in great detail what occurred in Cambodia during Pol Pots reign when nearly half the population were murdered as part of his desire to have a working class country and therefore he killed anyone who he suspected to possess any kind of intelligance. You do leave feeling very shocked and sad as it is an eye opener to say the least but important to experience i think! Our final days in Cambodia were spent at the beach resort of Sihanoukville but unfortunately it rained for the whole time we were there- which im sure your all pleased about after all of our talk of beaches and sunshine. We are at the start of Asia's monsoon season which according to our guide book means it should rain for approximately 1 hour per day but it literally rained all day for 3 days! We spent our time wisely though by eating 3$ BBQ's everyday which were delish and going drinking with an Irish couple (Will & Ruth) who we bumped in to at every place in Cambodia which was bizarre but we had some great times with them so think it was meant to be!!
We are now in Vietnam and up to yet have been to Ho Chi Min City (Saigon) and Nha Trang. HCMC was a lovely, vibrant and athentic city with quite a bit going on. The roads are mental as the most common method of transport is moped/motorbike and there don't seem to be any road rules...roundabouts where noone has to give way were a particular highlight, needless to say we walked everywhere!! Nha Trang is a gorgeous beach resort and we have had a bit of luck with the weather so have spent the day on the beach today which was a nice break from city life. We ended our day with a curry and an hour in a spa where we treated ourselves to several beauty treatments including foot massage, foot scrub, manicure and head massage all for 10 dollars! We are off to Hoi An tomorrow night which is another long journey (13 hours), we were a bit naive about how big Vietnam really is and it is taking us alot longer to get around than expected. Therefore we are not going to have time to do Laos or northern Thailand which is disappointing but we can save those for another trip!
Thats about it for now i think but will update you all again very soon!!
