Satwatdee, Sinjow, soow sdaeh!!! (Hello in Thai,Vietnamese and Cambodian- which I have heard alot over the past 6 weeks as Dan has been saying these as much as possible even though he rarely gets a response, god loves a trier through!)
I am writing this on my final day of this trip which is very emotional but exciting too!For the next 2 weeks Dan will be continuing this adventure alone as i head to Spain to meet the bestest and then back home to sunny stoke!
Over the past week or so we have continued our travels through Veitnam in Hoi An which was one of the nicest places we have been to, so romantic, and in my opinion Veitnams equivalent of Venice. From there we flew to Hanoi which couldnt have been more the opposite, really busy, a bit smelly, with the most hectic roads i have ever seen. We spent 3 nights there but we did manage to escape to Halong Bay for a night in the middle which was so beautiful and tranquil, which enabled us to relax a bit away from the city. We spent 2 days, 1 night on the Oriental Sails junk boat with a group of 20 dutch students who were on a "educational" trip to study Vietnamese structural engineering companys, although they didn't appear to be doing much studying on the boat! There was also a couple of Americans and an Aussie guy, John, whom Dan had as his drinking partner. We spent the days Kayaking, Swimming, and cave walking and the food onboard was amazing lots of local seafood. One of the other couples Auntie had booked the trip for them and had told the tour company they were on their Honeymoon so a special suite had been organised and a massive sponge cake. The crew were very confused when none of the couples admitted to it being their honeymoon so the other couple got the suite but we ended up with the cake which entered the room after dinner with lights out, a massive sparkler and singing of happy honeymoon which we all found very funny! I think we got the better end of the deal anyway!!
We headed to Bangkok from Hanoi ready for my flight tonight and spent yesterday getting our bearings in the rain. We used the water taxi on the canal which i thought would be a great way to see the city but unfortunately i think it was the local waste tip as it absolutely stunk and was disgustingly dirty and with the rain we had to have the shutters up the whole way so didn't see anything apart from the inside of the boat! The smell was so overpowering it made you feel sick and the boat was a bit rickity so i was rather worried we may sink which was not a nice experience and in Dans words we would have rather sunk off of Western Australia that in that Canal...it really was that bad!! We headed to the backpacker area of Khoa San Road for a few drinks last night and then made our way to Soi Cowboy to experience the "real" Bangkok which was a bit of an eyeopener. Got the full menu of services described to us by an Argentinian guy who is working here who had excellent knowledge of the services available but yet claimed to never had tried any of them as it was dirty!! I did want to ask him what he was doing in there then but managed to keep it zipped and we made a sharp exit shortly afterwards!
Feeling a little bit delicate today so planning to spend to day having a leisurely wander round before heading to a rooftop bar to say my final goodbyes! Can't believe its finally over, but all good things must come to an end!
Will look forward to seeing you all very soon and i hope you have enjoyed our little updates! Watch this space for dans next adventures which im sure will be the best part of his trip so far!!!
Lots of love xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
