Well the over night train was an experience, alot comfier than i thought it would be! When we arrived in Chiang Mai again we were staying in a really nice hotel, had a nice pool and a nice room. We had a few options on what we could do for our free day but the tiger experience was number one choice for me. When we arrived someone told me that all the tigers are drugged which is why you can stroke them which really concerned me, i didnt wanna pay a company that drug animals but after speaking to a volunteer that worked there was reassued that is not the case at all and i could tell by the way all the cubs were play fighting that they def werent! It was amazing to be in a cage with them they are so cute, just like little puppies but sooo beautiful. We went down to the night markets in the evening and had some proper cheap food and a browse around some of the stalls then ended the night having a few Chang's back at the hotel with Mark and Keeley and the Irish girls.
Started the Jungle trek by heading to a waterfall, the journey there in the 'taxi' was really scary as i wasnt sure we would actually make up up the steep hills, was pretty much holding on for dear life but when we got there was totally worth it. The waterfall was so pretty and we all got in and swam around in it, was great fun!
After we had dried off we set off to the start point of our 3 day Trek, backpacks, sleeping bags and walking boots ready . . . oh wait walking boots?? errr i have some primark £2 plimsoles i hope they will do . . . . unfortunately not! The first day we did a 2 hour Trek in the sweltering heat uphill on the smallest windyest slippery paths i genuinely wasnt expecting this at all!! I never realised just how unfit i really am i thought the trek was gonna kill me and in the back of my head all i could think of was 'we have to do this for 4 hours tomorrow . . . NOOOOO!!!' We got to the top of the hill and i felt like collapsing this is such hard work but then we saw the view and it made it all worth while, it was like a postcard and i immediately forgot about all the pain getting up there this was amazing! We were led to the hut we would all be sleeping in and it was this shack on stilts with Cows and sheep underneath it we were all desperate for a shower but after seeing the 'shower room' decided getting in the river would be alot better. . . bloody cold but sooo funny! We then all sat together had some beers and Ken got his guitar out and we all had a bit of a sing song until the power cut out! So Ken decided it would be a genius idea to take us all to see the stars, we walked to a rice field and then Ken made us all switch our torches off all i could think was that this was like something from a horror movie . . . oh but the stars were amazing!
Day 2, god i have been dreading this trek my legs are still stiff from the 2 hour trek yesterday i genuinely dont think i can do it! I still dont know how i did it, i nearly slipped down the sheer drop sooo many times and by now my backpack felt heavier and my legs were killing me. Im so glad that the girls were there helping eachother out, i think i would have given up otherwise. Our reward for the 4 hour trek was dinner and an Elephant Ride to the next camp. The elephant ride was scary, me and Hanne were on an elephant together and we were both pretty scared it was gonna slip down the drop or just go off somewhere else . . . this was supposed to be our treat and it was more scary than walking! The second camp was a bit nicer than the first, and showering in the river again was easier as it was deeper we had some dinner and all sat around playing games on the deck and then Ken told us some errr interesting stories about chicken suicide and the boy with one hand! It got to a point where me, Trish and aisleen couldnt even look at eachother without laughing hysterically, i will never forget this night!
Day 3, woke up in agony and angrily threw my stupid plimsoles in the bin. thankfully today was the bamboo rafting day and then we would be back in a nice hotel! Bamboo rafting was proper fun, i was at the front . . . Captain Sarah . . . and Mark was at the back helping to steer. It was good fun and some of the rapids got everyone soaked but we were on the raft for what felt like forever.
Back to normality . . . well as close as we would get in Thailand. We all went out for dinner and drinks to celebrate the trek being over. before leaving again on an overnight train back to Bangkok.
Highlights from my trip were, meeting Keeley and Mark, night markets, jungle trekking, cheap food, elephants, bamboo raft, riverside bar, guitar singing ken, hi tommy game, Ken trying to say Tarantula, The Boy with 1 hand, Ronald Mcdonald, Villages in the jungle, cute kids and animals, sleeping in a massive room with 15 other people.
