Well we fell out of bed after the big night out in Airlie surprisingly chipper after about 5 hrs sleep, threw everything in the car and started on what was to be somewhat of a mammoth mission to get to Hervey Bay. We had originally planned to stop in Rockhampton which in itself was a bout 4hrs drive, but as we had spent longer than expected in Airlie we needed to motor on, so we literally drove from 9.30am to 7.30 only stopping in service stations for food/ water and loo stops. Not much to say about the Bruce highway its long and monotonous this far down the country, saw loads of dead kangaroos and wallabys but disappointingly no live ones and even though the signs say watch out for the Koalas none of those were seen either (its all a big lie, they are only in parks for the tourists)
Anyway we got too tired to drive any further and it got dark quickly and there are no lights so we stopped off at a proper hick town (literally some shops and a few houses along about 1.5 miles of the highway) called Childers. We pulled in at this motel as LP book said it was clean (always a good selling point) and asked to see a room (women well miffed and kicked her husband out of his lounger to show me) anyway really clean and the most comfy bed (gonna ged me one of those mattress comforters) and we headed out to see if we could rustle us up some grub. Walked into the local bowling club (recommended by motel keeper Neville, as they had a new chef) and walked straight back out again. Ended up at what appeared to be the only place in town the chinese, it was heaving with the bowling club which said alot about their new chef!! Food was good actually and portions huge, so went to bed knackered and full.
Got up mega early again, apears to be norm now and headed into Hervey Bay (@2hrs further south) literally got outside the town and Steve puts his foot down and gets pulled by the local copper!!! 124 in a 100 zone so you cant really argue but the $250 fine a bit of a kick in the wallet.
Hervey bay bit of a disapointment, really long beach, tick, lots of cafe etc tick but unless you want to go to Fraser island (biggest sand island in the world - whoppee do) there isnt too much to do. But Steve had flu by this point so was grumpy, so we just spent the day mooching around and watching telly.
Next day headed further down another 3hrs drive into Noosa. Welll i just LURRRVEEE noosa, no wonder as its Brisbane's version of beverly hills! A house will set you back a cool million, but it really is just stunning. Saying that its also bleeding expensive we had to fork out $150 bucks for the night. We were going to live it up and go for a meal on the beach, but sacked it off and stayed in with a pizza in the end as Steve still wasn't feeling 100% and i was feeling guilty for spending the money on the apartment.
Short and sweet visit to Noosa would have liked to have stayed longer but needed to be in Brisbane to drop the car off. To cut a long story short we spent less than 1hr in brisbane before extending the car hire by 2 days and we are now in Byron Bay with all the Hippies.
Didnt realise it was quite so expensive so we have ended up renting a room in a bundalow park out of town that has still cost us $90 a night and it aint the nicest. I had to get Steve to get the owner to give me a hoover so i could remove the creepy crawlies from the room, not going to sleep well tonight! Spending as much time out of the room as possible for the next day and night.
We have booked our flights to sydney, so back to Brisbane on the 23rd to fly to Sydney for 5 days.
