SYDNEY - the return
We arrive in Sydney on St Patrick's Day and meet up with our mates Leon and Tanya who have kindly sorted out our hostel for the night and more importantly, the apartment we are all going to share for our last 4 days in Sydney. It will come as no surprise when we tell you that we spend St Patrick's Day getting blind drunk in an Irish pub. We have a great day/night, helped along by the winnings from a bit of gambling by the boys at the bookies which is actually inside the pub (common in Oz). The following day is the Bridge's 75th Birthday and we have planned on going down to join in the festivities, however when we learn that there are to be no fireworks and when we realise how shocking we feel, we decide to pass on the Bridge's birthday and have our own little vege-ing out party in our new pad. We even put the rooftop BBQ to use but it starts to drizzle just as we are about to try out the pool and spa.
The following day we have a final look around the City and meet up with a friend of Sarah's who has recently moved to Oz. We have another quality night out at the Orient Hotel at The Rocks, which is our favourite part of the City. On our final day it is Mark's birthday and we have planned on going to Taronga Zoo followed by Luna Park - a theme park overlooking the Harbour - however when we check the opening times of the theme park we find out that it is closed today, bummer. So we settle for just the zoo instead... we are a bit unlucky with the ferry times though and by the time we eventually get there we only have an hour and a bit to see the whole zoo, so we have to run round the place - this turns out to be quite a laugh though and it really is an amazing zoo. We also have to have a good laugh when we read on the ferry back about a special promotion they are doing at the zoo, to celebrate it's special birthday (think it was it's 90th birthday), which was that on your own birthday ie: today for Mark, you can gain entrance to the zoo for $1!!! If only we had known on the way in! So Mark was down $36 - Happy Birthday!!!
When we disembark the ferry at Circular Quay it's time to take in our last views of this spectacular harbour which we adore. As it is Mark's birthday we decide that there is only one thing for it and we will finish as we began with a few glasses of Champagne at the Opera House Bar. And so as evening descends on the City, the sun sets on our time in Australia; we raise a toast to this magnificent country and make a wish that we will be back again soon. It's the perfect end to our amazing time here.
