We spent a week in Melbourne which mainly consisted of watching the first test of the Ashes on the big screen. Had an amazing time in Canberra, it is such a nice city/town - not very many backpackers. We learnt lots about Australia and its history, visited the old and new parliament houses, the war memorial, the Telstra Tower and even tried to pay the prime minister a visit. Visited the surfing town of Byron Bay, didn't try to surf just watched the pros. We walked around the town and to all the lookout points. Walked upto the lighthouse and even made it to Australia's most easterly point. We camped whilst we were there, it felt like we were sleeping on concrete - we could feel our bones scraping the floor all night - all the experiences we get being a backpacker!

Brisbane is probably the nicest city we have ever been to, it is so clean and they seem to have the right mix of business and pleasure. The skyscrapers look amazing but there are so many parks and gardens for you to just sit and relax - we loved it. Went on a 4x4 Safari to Fraser Island - a sand island that has more sand than the Sahara desert. The island was nice, had really nice lakes (you could drink the water as you swam!) and sand dunes but we hated the trip - definately the worst trip of our lives!
