Went on a 4x4 Safari to Fraser Island - a sand island that has more sand than the Sahara desert. The island was nice, had really nice lakes (you could drink the water as you swam!) and sand dunes but we hated the trip - definately the worst trip of our lives! There are so many accidents on the island so the tour operators scare the life out of you before you go to make sure that your careful. We left for Fraser Island terrified - I didn't even want to go! There was a man on the trip that lived in South Africa and was used to driving on the sand so he was really confident about the driving. We on the otherhand were terrified at every bump we went over on the beach - a registered highway and runway! So we had so many arguments with him because he really wasn't bothered that most of the jeep were scared for their lives! We have never shouted so much in our lives and told so many people to slow down! Oh and another thing we learnt was that you should never send Germans, especially a group of German vegetarians to the supermarket to buy food for the group. Even when you send them with a item by item list they end up coming back with hardly any meat or basic food for meals. They said they ran out of money for meat and the things we liked but they still bought the poshest peppermint tea, loads of salad items, 2kgs of potatoes, and 40 bags of crisps for 11 people! They didn't even tell us about the food until we were stuck in the middle of nowhere! So we didn't really like the tour and were glad to get back on safe land but we managed to have fun driving the 4x4. The safest we felt was when each other was driving, even though we were trying to avoid being washed out by the high tide. I was a bit nervous at driving and was asking David which part of the beach to drive on, naturally he took me to the worst bit and I got us bogged! It was the only time we got bogged as well but it was fun, everyone had to get out and push us back out. We all nearly fell over doing it. So the island was nice but it was nice to get off it in the end!
