Sarah's and Becky's Travels...!
A short flight brought us to Singapore, which we were pleasantly surprised with! It is a lovely city, very clean and tidy and quite quiet! For our first night we slept out on the roof of a hostel (they had no beds free in actual rooms!) which was quite an adventure and it was fantastic waking up to views of the city!
On our first day we did a spot of shopping and were delighted to find a Topshop!!! We then conquered the public transport systems and went to the zoo, which was really great. We saw heaps of different animals, including polar bears!! Then it was the night safari - very exciting! Saw lots of rhinos!!
The next day we went to Raffles! The staff were surprisingly lovely considering how scruffy us travellers can look! They showed us around a bit and took a photo of us, and in the evening we returned, dressed up in our personally tailor-made Vietnamese dresses (!!) and had a Singapore Sling in the Writer's Bar!! It was soooo great!!! They gave us free cashew nuts and there was a pianist and everything!! To make the evening even better, we then went to another posh hotel for a CHOCOLATE BUFFET!!! It was fantastic - there was a chocolate fountain with a variety of yummy dips, chocolate cakes, mousses, and loads of different hot chocolates! Heaven!!
We also made it to Sentosa while we were here, the island off Singapore. It was beautiful, though man-made, and we got to stand at the Southern-most point of Continental Asia! Then we went to the Dolphin Lagoon - it was awesome!! There was a great show with 4 Pink Dolphins - and they're actually pink!! Then afterwards we got to stroke one!!
We also visited Little India and Chinatown, both were a little disappointing as there wasn't much there, and amazingly we wanted it to be like India!! So then we headed to Orchard Street, famous for all its shops and malls! It had such a great atmosphere! But unfortunately our last day in Asia and the sweltering heat came to an end, so we reluctantly dug out our ski jackets, jumpers, jeans, socks and trainers and made our way to the airport for Phase 2 - NZ!!
