Since the last blog, have continued to stay with different family and friends, meet their kids and have lots of barbies and pavlovas. My Aussie family are all excellent cooks! Been to Richmond, Mount Martha, Tecoma and lots of other places: have truly become a nomad.
Then Simon (boyfriend) arrived a few weeks ago and we began travelling up the East Coast. He really wanted to see Sydney so we went back there, did the Coogee to Bondi Beach walk again, went to the Toronga Park Zoo (scary scary spider talk agh), ate sushi (which he didn't like very much :-() and went to the Buddhist Festival which was really cool. Also went bowling in Darling Harbour, got very wet watching the sunset over the Sydney Harbour Bridge (but then a double rainbow appeared which was SO AMAZING).
Then we flew up to the Gold Coast (this was during the big floods, but luckily we missed them as we drove up to Noosa straightaway). We loved Noosa: was like the French Riviera in Australia. Did a big walk there in their national park and saw a wild koala in a tree. After Noosa, we drove up to a small town near Bundaberg called Bargara (loads of sugar canes and other pretty scenery along the way). The next day, we did a big 8 hour drive to Mackay and had a very dodgey and overpriced Singaporean meal there, and stayed in a very grannyish caravan park, which was actually quite cute.
On Wednesday, we started a 3 day boat trip of the Whitsunday Islands. Was quite random that Charlotte Barber from Dunottar was on our boat! Met some really great people from all over the world and saw some really incredible scenery. We did snorkelling every day and saw a nemo and a giant blue wrass fish, along with many other fish and coral. The boat did a slideshow each night of the different fish that we had seen and also silly photos that they took of the group. Oh on the second day, we went to Whitehaven beach, where the sand is some of the purest and whitest in the world (NASA used it to make their telescope lenses and visors for the astronauts).
After the trip, we had lunch with some people we met on the boat, and then flew from Proserpine airport (absolutely tiny airport) to Brisbane. There was a very lengthy bus ride from Brisbane to my cousins house in NSW! We have been spending the weekend with my cousin and aunt and uncle, and her really cute kids. This week we're doing Byron Bay, Surfers Paradise and Brisbane before flying back to Melbourne. Simon leaves on Friday :-(
Oh I've booked my flight home for August 14th so should be able to catch up with everyone before they go back to uni etc. Will be starting working in Supermarket on Saturday lol
