Im sitting in an internet Cafe surrounded by chinese geeks all playing computer games! its very bizarre! and the mouse and keyboard are very sticky and slimy, must remember to disinfect my hands!
Sooooo, where did i leave u? hmm the Great Wall. well since then, i found out that the 14hour train journey was to Xi'an! we stayed there for 3 days, it was disgusting! the pollution was even worse than Beijing. we found a delightful little youth hostel here, which did things like spaghetti bolognaise, and porridge! and a cup of proper english tea! all the stuff we've been craving! and i have definitely got used to the chinese food, and i must say, im definitely becoming a pro with my chopsticks!!
We went to see the Terracotta Warriors, that was pretty much the highlight of the trip. they were ok, a bit of a letdown after how much everyone had said they were amazing. but it was great to see, and the history is really interesting, so it was worth it. it rained that day as well, so by the time the rain had passed through the pollution it was sooo acidic! it stung my eyes and lips!
after that we had another 17hour overnight train journey yo Shanghai. the city is amazing! so busy and bustling the whoe time! we went to the Bund, which is a spot by the river where people go to see the Shaqnghai skyline, not too impressive during the day, but at night its sooo amazing! the whole city is lit with neon, its crazy!
We went to the SHanghai Museum, what can i say, its a museum! full of chniese history, art, statues, coins blah blah blah. we went to see the Shanghai acrobats last night as well, which really was good. kinda tacky in places, but that all adds to the fun. its had all the classics like plate spining, 10 girls on a bicycle, the ribbon thingy, but the finale was the highlight. they had a big metal cage ball, and inside was 4 guys, each on a motorbike, going round n upside down, all at a super speed. it was soo dangerous i almost couldnt watch for a bit! although i wasnt too fond of motorbikies after a while, cos we were walking down a very crowded street, and a motorbike came out of a crowd , on the pavemant i might add, and i didnt see it, and it drove straight into me! obviously not at speed cos there was hardly any room to even walk, and didnt stop either! although he did move after i was screaming in his face to get his bloody bike off my foot!! and now i have a nice big bruise on my shin! idiot! road-rage is definitely inevitable, especially for pedestraians! they are all CRAZY!!! dont understand the meaning of redlights, or lines on the road, or pavements obviously!
well, today we have another overnight train. this time 26hours to a place called Yangshuo. i really doubt thats how u spell it! we spending 2 nights int he city, then 2 nights in a country village, where we have the opportunity of doing painting lessons, calligraphy, tai chi, cooking classes etc etc, so im really looking forward to it!
bye bye till next time xxxx
