Greetings from Hong Kong,
On friday we had another action packed day but it didn't quite plan out that way. The day started off by us getting the Star Ferry from Hong Kong island to Kowloon. This was a lovely little trip and only lasts about 5 minutes, it was a different way to travel and cheap. We had good intentions but spent over two hours in an electronics store before leaving. We then went to meet the remaining members of the group. Howard, Ingrid and Helen had gone out last night and were all hanging. Darren and I found it all very amusing. We had gone out last night but only for a beer becuase we were dead on our feet. We then spent the remainder of the afternoon wandering around and generally walking everywhere. We were now staying on HK island which is much busier with many more sky scrapers everywhere, our hotel was situated right in the hustle and bustle of Times Square. It's a great little place to stay in the heart of it all. Our hotel is nice but the best thing is it has a soft bed! Bloody miracle. Even better than the soft bed was the supermarket. I think that Darren and I spent a good twenty minutes just walking up and down the aisles getting a little bit giddy over the fact that they had things like marmite. Very exciting stuff when you have been eating chinese food for the last 3 weeks. HK is very must westernised is their brands, their plumbing system, most speak English. In general the city is much more like city's like home, the language barrier isn't as much of a problem and you can wander around and it not feel do dis-similar to London.
The next day we were heading to DISNEYLAND! Very exciting. As HK have a little version of Disneyland Darren and I decided this would be a perfect way to end our trip. The train was awesome. It has little mickey windows, little mickey hand rails, very plush blue sofas and little disney characters behind little windows on the train. Disney really is magical and they make it all look so lovely. It was a really warm day and disney has gotten all festive which is really bizarre. Its the middle of Nov, we are wearing shorts and t-shirts and wandering around disneyworld listening to christmas songs. I felt like a little kid wandering around disneyworld especially as the first people we saw were Minnie and Mickey. Darren nearly ran over to the queue for pictures in excitement. They were pretty cute though all dressed in their x'mas outfits. The whole place is kitted out with christmas lights and presents to all the characters, candy cane lights- it looks awesome. One of our first stops was the animation house where we saw a fantastic set of all the Toy Story character's in different positions. Then when they are speeded up with a strobe light they come to life. It was bloody amazing and we watched about 3 times before we decided we couldn't stand there and watch it all day. We then headed over to Sleeping Beautys castle where all the fantasy stuff is. The tea cups are always fun and we ended up going on them a few times to the point of where I felt so dizzy I needed to stop. You can get some serious speed on those cup's. We also got to see The Lion King show which is a condense version of the film, they manage to tell it with only 5 of the songs from the movie. They haven't scrimped on the set though, they have a huge giraffe, elephant that move around and a giant Simba mechanical lion that sits on pride rock and sways to the music and stuff. It was really good fun and I especially loved the dancer who used the silk ribbons to fling herself around the theatre. Disneyland really is the best place ever, we ended up getting our picture taken with Goofy and Pluto. It's all about the festive cheer and even it's a small world has been made festive, you almost need to go on it a few times to see it all and they have a combination of the orignal song with jingle bells all in the different languages. I was trying to take pictures of all the coutries that our group had been from so I could tag them on FB but my camera wouldn't work so quickly without the flash on. Thad different characters from disney films in there too like jungle book and toy story. We spent most of the day soaking up all the disney fun, trying on silly disney stuff etc etc. You get the picture we were being big kids. I made Darren come on Space Mountain with me because it reminds me of when I went to Disneyland Florida when I was 8. My mum screamed the whole way round and I wanted to do it again because of that. The ride is so pretty with its star in the sky and still freaks me out when you see the flashed of light which light up the whole rollercoaster. The best bit was in China Darren has been finding everything lower than at home. What I mean is like barriers at the metro etc, so he was constantly ducking through out the right in fear that the frame work of the ride had been made lower because it had been made for chinese people who are all shorter than him. He was paranoid we were going to turn a corner and smack his head. I could not stop laughing the whole through, he had me in stiches. Funnily enough he wouldn't go on it with me again. So instead we went on Cinderella's carousel which was lovely. We didn't really have any problems queueing for rides so we kept going on them. We went to Tarzans tree house and on a little river cruise around it, the fake crocodiles in the water still freaked me out a little bit. I loved being by the castle and generally being a kid again. I was desperate to find Belle but I just couldn't find her, in fact any of the disney princesses would have done :(. Sadly we missed the big christmas parade as we were on the tea cups but we did get to see the toy parade where Mickey and Minnie light up the christmas tree and all the lights in Disneyland light up later that evening. They even blew out snow, it was perfect. As I'm away for christmas it was the perfect day as I got a white christmas with Darren after all. We stayed until it closed so we could watch the fireworks. The castle looks beatuiful at night and the fireworks were fantastic. The way they light up everything and the clips of the songs etc it is just great and well worth staying to watch. I loved how the castle sparkled, it really was a brilliant day. Once the fireworks were over we rushed to the train to try and not get stuck in the queue. Yay, we were on the first train back, so we stopped for sushi. I really like sushi and we went to this great place where they do it properly. You sit down and they have these long converyer belts that have the dishes on. They go round and round and you just take what you want. When we made it back we crashed out in our new hotel. We had only booked into the other one for two nights and luckily managed to get an early check in today. We were pooped but it really was the best day
The next day we did sod all. We had lots of bits and bobs to sort out but we just had a lay in and chilled out. We eventually went out for lunch and then back to the hotel to mooch all day long. It was well deserved after the amount of walking we had been doing for the last 3 weeks. We only left again to get food. Darren and I had our eye on a place called Spaghetti house. I am always torn between salad and pizza, I miss lettuce but I found a great pizza that was called a chicken caser-fate I think. Before dinner we had been to te night market to have a last shops if we wanted anything. That night was all about the final packing and sorting of stuff before our flights tomorrow. To be fair we got quite distracted as we kept watching movies. At half past two in the morning Mr Scott had a craving for orange juice. Seriously he had been going on about since midnight so I caved and we went to get some. He did offer to go by himself but with his sense of direction I don't think he would of been able to find his way back. No really guys it is quite bad.
I'm ready to leave China now though, I have been feeling it the past few days and looking forward to getting to Thailand and being around nature more not skyscrapers.
Hugs and Kisses xx
