Northern Beaches
We were both excited as today we picked up the car for two days. We organised ourselves, got some food from the supermarket and went to pick up our car. It's a Kia Picanto (not sure but picante is Spanish for hot.... so maybe it is too). Since I've been sick and crashing out in the afternoons we decided Sarah should drive, so we got the maps out and tried to take on the roads, from the right hand side.
The main problems were the lack of speed signs, the near total lack of road markings and some 'roundabouts' with a difference. Each time you came to a roundabout, you had to try and figure out who had right of way as there were giveaway signs and painted stops to certain entrances or lanes on the 'roundabout'. It made it a night mare. If you couple that with the fact they haven't repainted the road markings for a decade, it's a death trap. Maybe road paint is expensive here, everything else is!
We made it out and headed for the beach. Since we were heading to Europe, Curaçao gave us some nice grey sky and drizzle. Sarah said it reminded her a little of England..... Oh great. We made it out the other side of the drizzle and stopped at a few beaches. The incredible turquoise water and pearly white beaches were simply breathtaking. We decided it swim at the third one, one where it had warmed up a little.
For the rest of the morning we stayed ahead of the weather and it cleared for the afternoon.
We beach hopped north until we ran out of coast before heading to a museum. This included the beaches Knip, Grande Knip, Playa Lagun and a few I can't remember the name of.
Unfortunately for the museum on this hot day, its videos were very slow and repetitive and really no match for the beaches. So we left. We are both sure it probably was a good museum for some people, but just too slow and repetitive for us.
We headed back down a few beaches to cool down and finished by heading all the way south to where we spent our first day.
Sprawled out on a sun-lounger under palm-trees, mango slushy drink in my hand, banana and strawberry one for Sarah, watching and listening to the waves crashing on the rocks, it's really hard. It was made even worse by two lovely ladies in their bikinis being filmed and photographed for an add campaign. Then, just before we left, some crazy water sports started with what appeared to be hover boarding, 2-3m above the water.
We retired to dinner in a Japanese restaurant for some great sushi and sashimi, gyozos (like dim sims) and green tea with rice. The taste of Japan, oh how we have missed you!!
