8/6 To Isla del Sol
Direct bus but we changed to a mini bus to get to the border and again on the other side? direct my arse!! We arrived at the border with the usual walk through fun, stamps one side, then another line. We cross the border to Bolivia and welcomed Laura and Joe to Bolivia for the first time. After arguing for a while we get another coach to Copacobana.
We were so hungry by this point and I don't want to sound ungrateful but after getting menus and seating ourselves and waiting a while, we ordered and then didn't see the lady again for over an hour. We waited till lunch to get breakfast, and I'm not joking. We then played the waiting game again while we waited for a boat that didn't come, and we were following what the ticket man said (and he was 10m away the whole time). The guy then argues with us and we got on a boat about 30 boats up.
It's been an interesting day thus far. So now it's just a few hours until we would get to the island of the sun! After some time passes, with the other three transfixed with the horizon as to not get sick, I start playing cards with a local guy on the boat. I'm not sure how I lost but I did, the point system im sure was rigged, as it made no sense at all and he had a sly smile afterwords. We changed games to a type of rummy and the fourth game I won, realising the rules. I think they were as follows: 9 cards, 3 x 3 runs or 'of a kind', one must be of a kind (multicolour) and one a run ( single colour). The third was either the other colour or another multicolour. A few games later I headed to sit on the roof of the little boat. It had great view of the lake, simply amazing. When i returned inside the boat there was a young girl crying, one of the card guys kids, so we went to entertaining the guys kids. Sarah reminded me i had recently got koala clips and we gave both of the girls a koala clip to play with. Straight away all four of us watched their faces light up and they played with them for the rest of the trip.
We arrive just in time for Laura to not explode and pee, it was close. Laura usually lasts about 10 minute without a toilet, or maybe 25 minutes tops!!. We get a place to crash from a girl on the boat and head for lunch. This little restaurant overlooking the lake had a funny 12 year old waiter, a clued on joker of a kid. Great cheap food; i love you Bolivia.
I don't know why but I had to head to bed and didn't return until morning. Everyone else rests and reads followed by a dinner of Titticaca trout in garlic sauce, they said it was the best food ever. I'm not sure, might just be rubbing it in as that's what I'd have done, haha. At least I sleep the fever off.
