Well I wish you could see what I can right now!! I am sat on the bus with Lisa and 2 of our new hiking buddies Amy and Warren, both from Canada....Vancouver and Calgary.
We are travelling 40km down typical African roads, more like dirt tracks. To my left I can see Mount Kilimanjaro in the distance with its huge peak visible above the clouds. It looks magnificent and straight away you feel a respect for the mountain and excited at the task in hand. I feel very lucky to be here right now and happy to be sharing it with Lisa. We are exhausted from the journey but have a day to relax before we start the climb.
As we arrive at the hotel first impressions are good the pool area is nice and as always in Africa the people are friendly. We are told where and when to meet for our welcome meeting and shown to our rooms. The rooms are very basic with tiled floors and walls, mosquito nets around each bed, lights that only flicker and no air con. I adapt well but for Lisa I think it's a shock and the fact that the WIFI doesn't work very well is traumatic for her.
As I lay on the bed trying to sleep I hear a woman on the phone to her mum. She is explaining what it was like to summit yesterday and about the whole experience on the mountain. She sounds overwhelmed by the whole thing and it makes me want to get going even more. I can't put into words how much I want to get going and to reach that summit.
