We are now in Sydney and have been here since arriving on Saturday. We jumped in a taxi from the airport (it is impossible with the amount of luggage we have to do anything but) and arrived in Bondi Beach. Now my previous description of Surfers was Seacroft by Sea and I had been warned about thelook of Bondi and it lived it to that initial impression. However, that said after a few days, it's grown on me. It's a lovely beach, with another RSL (Surf Club) at one end called Bondi Iceberg and the swimming pool down below overlooking the sea and along the front are quite a few nice shops and cafes/bars. We're staying in a nice apartment set back from the beach up a bit of a hill. It was nice to finally arrive somewhere we are staying for a more than 3 nights and get the chance to unpack the suitcase! As it was mid afternoon when we arrived at the apt, we had a little wander round and then decided to put some washing on! 3 weeks on, it was a necessary evil. We were up bright and early Sunday (more of the bright than early if I'm being honest!) and decided to have a walk from Bondi to a place called Watsons Bay, which Iain advised was not that far and has the world famous Doyles fish and chips. The previously advised 45 mins gentle stroll actually turned out to be a gruelling hour and half uphill stride in the sweltering heat (so good for you though!) and we arrived ravenous at Watsons Bay with the thought of lovely fish and chips in the forefront of our minds, so imagine our face when were realised that we had missed the lunch slot (12 - 3) and dinner didn't start for another hour! However, all was not lost as the takeaway was open. The fish and chips were it has to be said lovely and Watsons Bay was brilliant, really picturesque, not tacky at all! Obviously whilst eating we agreed that walking back was not an option, no the best bet was the bus, so once nicely full we headed up to the bus stop, and iain asked the bus driver what time the bus back to bondi beach departed, the dreaded words, 'the last bus was at 6' escaped his lips, what with it now being after 6! He was a very kindly bus driver though and thought up an alternative route back for us and we eventually made it back to bondi, very happy campers! That night having decided to stay in (as Monday was to be a full day sightseeing in the city), we settled down and looked forward to the new season of Brothers of Sisters, when I say this it was actually more me looking forward to this than Iain which started about 9.30 pm, right at about the time that Iain's friend Danny paid us a visit with some drinks (that was the saving grace!) Danny has been in Australia since October and although unexpected it was good to see him. Monday we spent a full day in Sydney after a quick stop in Bondi Junction (to try to pick up our cards) where we met the sister of the helpful British Airways staff member we previously met in London, hopefully if you've been following this will make sense! Once in Sydney, I was very impressed with what I saw, in fact it was quite exciting as the bridge and opera house etc all looked quite spectacular and it's funny when you finally see something that you've previously seen on tv in the flesh. Iain was also excited, more so at the fact that I was loving Sydney I think! We spent a full day walking all round the city and then headed back to Bondi and went out that night for something to eat. Yesterday morning we went over to Lindfield, just outside the city to meet a friend of Iain's that he used to work with when he lived in Australia before called Robin and his wife Kirsty. Obviously for Iain it was lovely for him to see them again and for me it was great to meet them both for the first time, and they were exactly as Iain described, absolutely cracking people and it was a lovely morning, their house and lifestyle was lovely and if Iain and me could have half of what they had, we would be very happy people! Then yesterday afternoon, we met Vanessa (if you're keeping up, these were the friends in Brisbane) as she was in Sydney for a couple of days so we went over to Manly via the ferry from Circular Quay to meet her for a couple of hours. It was a great afternoon and Manly was lovely, with a great precinct and nice beach, and we ended up staying over there for tea and got the boat back into the city, home for about midnight. Today's plan was to do the bridgeclimb but it was fully booked, so we're now booked in for Friday. Today we have done the Bondi to Coogee walk along the cliff tops and just had some lunch and will be heading back soon and tonight we're meeting up with Danny. Over the next couple of days we have the seaplane and are hiring a car, so will keep you posted. Thanks again for everyone who's left a message, keep them coming! Lots of love to everyone, especially our mums and dads it's been great to speak to you on skype recently. Hope everyone's well. Sara and Iain.xxxxx
