Hello again!
We arrived in Bangkok without any problems. Bangkok airport seemed so nice in comparision to the unorganised one we left behind in Kolkata. The trip from the airport to Khao San Road seemed so peaceful - i didn't hear one horn for the whole ride and our driver actually used his mirrors before changing lanes which was a nice change, Jess actually managed to drift off to sleep for a bit instead of holding on for her life! Once at Khao San road we checked in to a hotel and went for a bit of an explore around the area. It was so nice to be able to walk around without being hassled, stared at, or asked for your photo. We just blended with the hundreds of other tourists here. That evening Jess and I went for a few drinks but had an early night
On the 2nd we woke up and were getting ready for the day when Sophie and Cara appeared at our door!! It turns out that they were also checking into our hotel (because the one they tried first was full) and they saw our names in the guestbook! We spent the day with them having a very nice breakfast (i.e. NOT toast - the only thing that we were allowed as a 'complimentary breakfast' at hotels in India). We then did a bit of shopping along Khao San road before going out for a few drinks in the evening.
The 3rd was Cara's birthday. In the morning we had breakfast with Oli Harman and Nick Gregory (Oli flew to Hong Kong later on that afternoon, but Nick is staying in Bangkok for a few days before heading to the islands). It was really nice to see them both and catch up on all their adventures. They had just done a trip through Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam so it was a good chance for us to get some more advice on where to go. After breakfast we did a bit more shopping (i brought myself 2 beach dresses) before buying Cara the BEST birthday cake in the world!! It had Oreo's on the top and in the top layer - there was also a layer of ice cream in it!! We ate that in our room and then went out with Nick Gregory and Sam Briggewater who had also arrived by this point. We each had a few beers and a 'bucket' with various cocktails in (they were doing a deal and we couldn't refuse). We then danced the night away in 'Le club'.
The plan was to get a bit of sightseeing done today (the 4th), but it was SO hot that we couldn't think of anything worse than being anywhere without airconditioning so we ended up having a coffee at Starbucks then packing up our stuff. Tonight we are going to have something to eat with the boys (Matt Horsely also arrived today - it's a mini Kingswood reunion!!) and maybe go to see a show.
Early tomorrow we are heading up to Khanchanaburi which is meant to be really nice. I am quite excited about it.
Speak soon, hope you are all still well.
Lots of love.
