day one @ Johannesburg
Johannesburg, South Africa
The ultimate johansberg tour was an eye opener about the city. It was exciting, pleassurly beautiful. Got a taste of the extreme and the luxurious places in the city. The place has a mix of high rise buildings and also the slums with slacks. A mix of posh luxurious cars and people living in the tin shacks with no proper toilets. We had a tour around the city to the mandela house, the women prison where it became a national asset since 2006, when the entire area was closed down. Visited the museum, where the young children were massacred by the Africanpolice because of the protest against the Africans language. The first boy to be killed was hector Patterson, a museum was estrablished on his name to pay homage for his bravery.
Had a good taste of the local food, sitting faith the local and enjoying a buffet lunch in the sun. Visited the johansberg national stadium, where the 2012 soccer finals had taken place between Netherlands and Spain. The gold mine across the stadium is an exquisite panoramic view of a hill of underground earth. The mine was closed a long time ago as not much of gold was discovered. next stop was to a place called sweto which is about 10- 15 k from johansberg. The town has a popullation of about 3 million and a mix of rich and poor.
We also went to the tour of africa building and was lifted to the fifth floor of the building. We could view the south, north, west and east parts of the city. Ended the day with a beautiful scenic drive back to the mufasa backpackers located just outside the city on the south.
