On Saturday I went to The Great Wall of China. All I can say is that it was incredible!!! Absolutely beautiful scenery. I joined a tour and went to the Mutianyu part of the wall which was reconstructed by the Ming Dynasty. I now understand why they call it "hiking" the Great Wall. If you've read any of my other posts you will know I'm not particularly great at hiking hahahaa my inhaler definitely saved my life! I made a friend on the bus from Australia and me, him and a French girl hiked most of the wall together. The view from the highest part of the wall of epic! Picturesque. Apparently in China I must be famous as people love taking my photograph hahaa. I think me and Liam got stopped 3 times on the wall by Chinese people and then African men (don't know why they wanted our photo) to take photos with them Hahaa they were Propa chuffed with themselves. Slightly weird it is. Oh yeahh I bumped into the Americans I met at Tian'anmen square on the wall too ha! After the hike we had free lunch and omg it was delicious. Lots of different Chinese dishes on a spinning centre piece. Very nice!! Restored my faith in Chinese food. Even my dinner in the evening with my Danish friends was nice! On the way we found one of those outside gyms and the old Chinese people were exercising on them ha they are better then ours as they have the added feature of massage points!! Food situation is definitely starting to improve!
On Saturday night after my nap I went to see my friend Terrance who I met in Guatemala. He took me to Nanlouguxiang which was a place with lots of Hutongs (little streets/alleyways with Chinese houses and shops and things). It was really pretty and we ended up at a lake surrounded by restaurants and bars! It was lovely!! I went back there on Sunday evening for a free walking tour and the tour guide Leo told us that the lake is the 2nd biggest man made structure in the world after the Great Wall!
Sunday I went with my Danish friends to go and see Mao's dead body. Unfortunately one of the girls forgot her passport so we didn't go in. I was pretty glad to be honest because there were about 1000 people in the que!! :|
Instead we went to the Temple of Heaven park were we joined in with some Chinese dancing and had a look at the pagodas and halls. Such beautiful buildings. We climbed the steps to heaven (yesss I made it to heaven <3) and went to have Peking duck a good hall outside the park. I'm not gonna lie I was looking to go for McDonald's and found this place inside hahaa. I tried jasmine green tea icecream too! Not badddd. As I mentioned before that I must be famous. Me and the girls were interviewed and videoed twice in the park by Chinese students. One about our countries and what we like about Beijing and one about our opinions on public smoking. We also got asked for our photograph by the Chinese guy too. Popularity increasing. #winning
On the walking tour we got to go to a traditional Chinese house in the Hutong and met this old man who was the number one cricket fighter champion. Yes he would make crickets fight and win money! He even showed us the little cricket coffins lmao. Funny guy. I held his grasshoppers and his salamander (freaked out a little) and then went outside and he let his pigeons out and I was telling Liam how I hate pigeons and of course one of them pooed on me! Yay me. As everyone has said its good luck :/
I stayed in bed until half 10 this morning as all this walking is like marathon training. I'm going to come back with thighs like Beyoncé and a bum like Kim K. I am off to the silk street market today and then I have a train to catch to Shanghai tonight. Soft sleeper cabin for meee. Only because that's all they had left hahaa I wanted the cheap hard sleepers really. I think it's 8 hours long! Hopefully I'm not bunked with 3 psychopaths.
One more thing! My camera app on my phone is broken so I can't transfer my camera photos to my phone until they update the app. I've started taking some photos on my phone as well as my camera to upload but they won't be as good quality. Hopefully they update the app soon!
Wow I think this is my longest post.
Urgh I will not get use to the constant flemming up out of the locals mouths and noses!!! Makes me heaveeee! Someone please explain that it's disgusting!
Peace!
