Wallaman Falls
Wallaman Falls is located in Girringun National Park and its name to fame is for being the country's tallest single drop waterfall. The initial viewing platforms are only a short walk from the parking area. We are sure that Wallaman is exquisite to view when it has a bounty of water, but unfortunately for us that was not the case. There was only a trickle of water and was a disappointment to the say the least.
To make up for that we decided to go on the walking trail to reach the base of the Fall. Again misfortune struck as we didn't really pay attention to the sign that said a moderate amount of fitness is needed as it can take 2-4 hours to complete the trail. My husband and I are not hikers or even rigorous exercisers and so you can probably guess the outcome. After what seemed liked hours of walking (it was probably a solid 35-45 minutes) and constant vocalization of wondering when we would finally reach the base, we finally made the decision to turn around. Let me also mention that the majority of the trail is winding with a slow descent full of unpaved steps and boulders. So, the trek back proved even more brutal as now we had to deal with the ascent. We were so thankful for the resting areas provided throughout the trail as we took full advantage of them.
Our legs felt like noodles by the time we reached our car and were in somewhat sore (literally and figuratively) spirits. But at the end of the day, it provided us with the lesson of making sure we knew what we were getting ourselves into and a humorous memory that will not be forgotten soon.
